When i bought my truck back in 2012 I splurged on a LoJack system. At the time I thought that it might save myself some heartbreak if some less savory types thought to steal my baby away.

Now in 2015 I receive 2 to 3 Early Warning alerts a day (calling my cell phone, home phone and emailing me simultaneously) even though I have both key fobs (with fresh batteries) in my truck at all times. To add insult to injury the lovely folks over at LoJack only want $95 and for me to take a personal day for them to remove the system from my truck.

With all the preamble out of the way as anyone come across the transmitter tucked away in their truck? I've looked behind the glove box and fuse panel and under the drivers side dash but haven't been able to pin the sucker down yet. I haven't popped any interior panels yet but I'd imagine that they didn't go to that extent when they installed it.

You stole a Tacoma and you're just trying to locate and destroy the LoJack unit aren't you?

In all seriousness, I am considering LoJack. What do you think is causing the early warning alerts?

Haha not at all. I just have issues with the hardware in my truck and don't feel the need for it any longer. I bought the truck when I lived with my folks and have their phone number listed as one of my notification numbers in addition to my cell and email. If it was simply an issue of ignoring the EW call and email on my own phone it would be a simple enough task, but since it calls their house too and I haven't been able to get Lojack to change that its become an issue for them.

Why would lojack need access to the hardware to disable the monitoring service? Could they disable the service and just leave the hardware in place? Just a thought.

To be honest I think it just needs service, up until recently it was like a condom (better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it). The fobs have a light that blinks when the battery gets low sand your supposed to have it inspected annually at $99 a clip. I always ignored the annual service notice and I'm regretting it now since my EW has been going off, its not even every time I drive its quiet for a while then I get 2 EW calls on my way into the office.

All in all I didn't mind having it, the fob made my key ring a little bulkier. It did knock my insurance down some but not enough to write home about.

I contacted their customer service department a couples times but each time they circled back to paying to have it removed instead of just disabling the monitoring remotely. I had it installed at the dealership so I might try to get them to find it at my next service.

Like how much did insurance go down? I'm all about getting cheaper insurance. And how much is LoJack for A Tacoma altogether?

It's been a while so I don't recall exactly, I do remember that it was bundled into the extended warranty they offered at the time.

It brought my premiums down maybe $25 every six months. I had to fax a copy of the install certification to my insurance to verify that I had it installed and they applied the discount. Its a good preventative and I only really got it because it was part of the warranty bundle. I don't think I would have bothered with it if it was offered stand alone.

Oh yeah, that's really not a lot at all. How much did the whole thing cost you, installation and everything?

It was bundled in the 100,000 mile warranty the dealer offered. I think it was around $150 more for the 100,000 mile warranty with LoJack over the standard 100,000 mile warranty.

I have a problem I need help with too, and it seems like this thread might be a good place to ask. Sorry, not trying to hijack your thread or anything. Can anyone give me some tips on getting a club off my steering wheel, I seem to have lost the key. I also need to figure out how to get the alarm to turn off without disconnecting the battery...

    The '90s called.....

But seriously folks, I thought Lojack went out of business years ago.

I thought the whole concept fizzled out, because most people wouldn't want their vehicle back after it was stolen any way.

I do remember that they would intentionally find new, and difficult spots to mount them, just so people couldn't find them. I used to find them every now, and then when I was doing hardwired cell phone installs in vehicles, back in the days of Vanilla Ice, and M.C. Hammer.
