Guess you dont understand how it works. Insurance doesn't just hand out money for diminshed value no matter what you say. You have to fight for it, via a lawyer most of time and even when you do its not a dollar for dollar thing. I remember a member on here fought for diminished value and walked away with less then $1K even after having sustained damage of upwards of $15K+.

In Florida diminished value is limited as follows:

The statute of limitation on diminished value claims in Florida is 4 years, and Florida does not have uninsured motorist coverage for diminished value. You can't submit a Florida diminished value claim if you were the at-fault party in an accident, or if the damage was caused by something other than a collision.

So if I read the OP's story correctly there would be no diminished value coverage as it was not a collision--of course there also is no such thing as "black ice", except VERY rarely in the panhandle. We lived in Tallahassee in late January of 1998 had 2-3 inches of snow. The roads were total chaos...

People are really argumentative on here sometimes.

How it works will vary depending on policy, insurance company, and state. So there will be no definitive answer.

You don't get a lawyer to fight against your own insurance company unless you file a separate tort. Good luck being an individual sueing a multi million dollar insurance company. So thats not how it works either.

It is something that I have heard of people on here getting and my family members have recieved it so I asked OP about it. I'm not an expert.

Spoke to local dealer and a few mechanics locally. Consensus was since the title is clean, there was no frame damage (and I have the paperwork to prove it), they're saying depreciation would be normal, maybe a few grand less.

No idea if this varies state to state or what, just what I've picked up.

Anyway, decided to hang on to it and just get a cheap Subie or similar as a daily driver.
