Hey everyone, just a little intro before I get to the build, it's helpful to understand where I'm getting my resolve from.

I've wanted a Toyota Tacoma or Toyota pickup since I was a little kid. Dad had a black 84 SR5 4x4 and sold it years before I knew anything about vehicles. After hearing him tell stories about it I knew one day I had to get one .

First car was an 02 Volvo S40 for $3000. We spent about $4000 in two years trying to keep it on the road, and I learned a lot about what was a good car after such a bad choice. I ended up getting a 06 Acura RSX type S for my next car and it's been amazing, but I've still had the itch for a truck.

Got a 1990 Ford Bronco XLT 4x4 that had been sitting on and off for 10 years. Put a lot of blood and sweat into that truck. Bought it for $1200, sold it for $5000 after only spending another 2k in parts.

Sold it to pay off some bills sadly and told myself next time I want a Toyota, so I looked and looked but couldn't find anything that was a great deal.

Then it finally happened. A close friend of mine asked if I was looking for a cheap truck. I said yeah what you got? "My grandmothers 2.7 2007 Tacoma that's sat for a year and a half... Only thing wrong with it is the water pump is dead and the interior is really a mess, we were gonna have it scrapped."

    "How many miles?"
    "273k"
    "How much $"
    "500"
    "How bad is it really?"
    "...Pretty bad"

    "Okay, I'll take it"

A few days later I finally got a day off to go look at it.

    This is what I saw on day 1.KIMG1478.jpg KIMG1492.jpg KIMG1489.jpg KIMG1485.jpg KIMG1488.jpg KIMG1506.jpg

This is kind of a look back over the last week. More to come later tonight after I finish some stuff around the house. Right now just trying to get it running good. Really want 4x4 so I may end up selling this one. But it's gonna be a whole lot nicer when I sell it.

They make spindle lift kits for 5 lugs?
I was under the impression that only first gens had that option.

I have a 6 lug, but I'm pretty sure I've read that the only lift for a 5 lug is the spacer option.

    Part 2

After exchanging money and title paperwork I asked them to get their stuff out (didn't want any liability of them losing any documents or anything.) I spent about 45 min:

    -Siphoning the old gas out
-Pouring in a can of seafoam with new gas
    -Changing the air filter
    -Changing oil
    -Airing up tires
    -Topping up fluids
    -Putting in a new battery

They found 5 keys for the truck (forgetful grandma)

I attempted cranked it for the first time and was met with a sharp metallic *clang* noise.

Tried a second time to crank and got to hear that beautiful Toyota starting music.

Tires were deep in their loamy beds, a few forward, reverse, forward movements and a friend to push on the front bumper and it rocked free.

Flat spots from sitting made the ride home a little bumpy but I was able to reach speeds of up to 60mph.

Took a number of photos to document the starting point of the project once I got all the junk out.

    MVIMG_20181229_125902.jpg MVIMG_20181229_125911.jpg MVIMG_20181229_125921.jpg MVIMG_20181229_125934.jpg MVIMG_20181229_125943.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130006.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130016.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130024.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130123.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130338.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130529.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130553.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130538.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130617.jpg MVIMG_20181229_130525.jpg

I pressure washed the outside and masked up, gloved up, and pulled all the moldy trash out and ditched the old floor mats. I discovered that the driver's side rain rail was missing, I believe leading water into the floorpan and spawning some horrible smells. Like... Rotting onions and used kitty litter. Horrible stuff.

This is it after that. Sorry for night photos. But the difference is still visible.
