Currently the only product we have is a OEM sized Microphone that mounts in the OEM location with a 3.5mm (3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter included to work with all head units) end that plugs directly into your after market head unit. This product is pictured on page 1. This product requires no splicing. It requires you to remove your OEM microphone + install the replacement microphone in the original microphones location in overhead console, run the wire across your headliner, down your A-pillar, and behind your head unit.

At this time we have put the retrofit solution on hold. The easy way for us to do this would be to source the OEM microphone mount but unfortunately Toyota doesn't sell the microphone mount piece separately. They only sell the entire overhead console (If anyone can find a place to buy the OEM microphone mount in bulk PM me). This means a retrofit solution would require modifying / cutting of your OEM piece, which we do not have the resources or time required to pursue at this time.

This is the only reason I have not put my Sony android auto(can't remember model #) head unit in, I don't want an extra Mic hanging anywhere and I don't want to rip apart the console to rewire the Mic to make it work.

I just scored a used overhead console on ebay for $60 just to get the oem mic mount. Would it possible for you to model that piece and print them in 3D? I think there is a market for it. It really does suck Toyota doesn't sell that piece separately.

There's two main problems with trying to 3d print that piece. First, the color of the printed part would not match the Toyota trim piece and secondly, the textures are very different. The Toyota trim pieces are an eggshell-ish texture and 3d printed parts are smooth with with steps. Think trying to build a curve with Legos.
We have an idea on how to implement a retrofit solution, however we haven't had the time to explore it.

We have built another batch of microphones! If anyone is interested in purchasing one, please send me a PM.

Also, if anyone has any feedback or suggestions regarding the microphones, we would love to hear it via PM!

Lastly, we would like to thank everyone who has purchased one of our microphones and contributed to this thread! Have a great night all

I would love an adapter to the factory mic. I pulled out the factory mic and put in the mic that came with my Alpine unit, but it's kinda just hanging in that space with electrical tape. My wife says she hears herself when talking, but that might be more of a head unit or phone BT issue.

I'd feel more comfortable having the factory mic with a cable adapter though. I think you mentioned you may be able to make one.

You just have to insulate it. I used 3m tape to hold the kenwood mic in and tesa tape to insulate it all around in the factory location. It was perfect after that.

Kyle, would it be possible for you to 3D print a adapter block so I can drop my kenwood mic in thus snapping it in the oem location? Basically the piece you created without the mic you provide.

We are currently working on a cable adapter to allow the OEM microphone to work with aftermarket headunit. We are in the process of having circuit boards made and testing. We do not have an eta for this model at this time.

It wouldn't be economical for us to design a one off product and we do not have the Kenwood microphone to test with. We are trying to have a more universal product. Is there a reason why you want to use the Kenwood microphone over ours or any other brand?

In all honesty, laziness because i already ran the cable. LOL. I currently have the kenwood mic double sided tape to the oem mic location and tesa tape covering all holes and gaps. It works fine. I was thinking along the lines of a universal clip in piece and you can drop any aftermarket mic in. I have both kenwood and pioneer and they are practically the same. Basically i would just want the piece you created w the center hole bored out and ill figure how to secure the mic myself. Atleast with your custom piece, the mic will be straight, centered, and clips in like oem. Just a thought. If not, ill pick up yours one of these days.

Am with DaMaDo, I don't want to mess with removing the console and running the wiring, am in for a factory mic adapter.

Please keep us posted on the status of the product.

    Thanks.

Will do. We are predicting the factory mic adapter will be ready for sale in a couple months.

For people who need a microphone before then we still stock the replacement microphone assembly.

Subd. I am looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Like a lot of people on this thread, I am hesitant to go with an aftermarket head unit because I don't want to lose the factory mic location and don't want to run more wires.

The OEM microphone adapter we are working on will require running no extra wires, just tapping into 6 wires behind the head unit. It should be a very simple install. I will definitely keep you all updated on the OEM microphone adapter. Currently we have a vendor making us prototypes. I'm thinking it will be a month or two before they are ready, at the soonest.

I have only seen one model microphone from Toyota in all of their vehicles so theoretically these should fit. However, I've never tested them inside anything other than a 2nd gen Tacoma. If you want to buy it and give it a try, I'll let you return it if it doesn't work for whatever reason.
