I've been looking into getting a tonneau cover and was hoping to get some recommendations from people who have used them. I've been looking at some of the retractable ones but I just don't want to loose much of my bed space. I think I would be okay with a canister if it was on the smaller side. I just don't want to loose a foot of my bed since I only have a 5 ft bed.

I really like the Peragon cover since you can just pull it out if you need to load something big, and there's no canister. My only concern is I'm not sure if you can still put cross bars in for a roof top tent. I'd like to get a RTT eventually so that's a most for me.

Would love to hear from some people retractable tonneaus!

Peragon. When retracted you loose about 6”. But push the little lever and it comes out completely. Goes back on just as easy.

I’ve had mine about a year and am very satisfied. Only change I would make is color. They offer color matching to your vehicle. However, due to Covid they weren’t at the time

My truck is Voodoo. I think a red one would look really good.

I ordered Retrax XR as well. I figure if I need more cargo space, I can use the integrated rails, and get a cargo box.

How’s the water seal on the retractable?

I ordered a retraxPro MX purchased through the realtruck vendor on here, there is a Group Buy going on right now I think. Showed up within a couple days and got it installed. I am down in AZ so I went aluminum over the poly material. Haven't had a chance to water test yet but the install was straight forward. Quality seems to be very high. I really like it so far and am very happy. It should be relatively water resistant if installed correctly. It will not be 100% waterproof as there are spots in the bed that need to be sealed (not the covers fault). but after install I did a light test by closing the cover and climbing into the bed with the tailgate down and looking for light coming through, was able to shim and adjust the side rails so the no pin holes of light get through. The issue I have now is the tail gate itself, I will need to put seals and gap shields over that as water can get in through the tailgate. Overall tho, very happy.

How much space does it take up in the bed do you think? The retrax does seem like a really good option

I would say maybe 12" when fully retracted and it sits above the wheel well on the short bed so you still have the space underneath should you need to haul lumber (if you're rich and can still buy lumber haha) I drilled the drains in the bed higher up so if I need to put something in the bed the drain lines don't interfere and I am not reliant on the floor drains already in the bed. To me the trade off is worth it, I put a bed mat in and installed the oem power tailgate lock system as part of the deal to have the tailgate lock with the doors and the bed mat to keep crap from sliding around in the bed. Overall very happy. If you want I can take some pictures later today and show you the amount of space it takes up, or just use some google-fu and I'm sure there are some pictures out there. Time will tell how it holds up but I went out to a bunch of different sites that sell the retrax brand and read reviews, the majority of the poor reviews were installer error, people who think a rolling cover should be 100% waterproof just by slapping it on and other stupid stuff that really just boils down to dumb people in general. Very few reviews were due to poor craftsmanship or issues with the cover itself. I think if you have realistic expectations and understand that if you want a fully waterproof cargo area, there are some extra things you need to do then you would be happy. I was initially looking at the OEM tonneau but didn't like that the front section is bolted down, or some of the other folders that block the rear window when flipped up... etc. the aluminum one I have doesn't bounce or flex at all. It slides smooth and is easy to lock and unlock and the factory bed cleats fit in the track still and I can move them around when needed. I would definitely read the instructions all the way through tho as I didn't go to the very last page and realized I need to pull the front tie downs out before the canister dropped in, and where the foam seal for the header bar go.

I agree with mr rick, proper installation is key.

Thanks I really appreciate it! I did see some pictures in a thread of someone installing it so I should be all good there. It's just hard to get a feel for size from a picture vs standing next to my truck with a tape measure haha.

I reached out to the vendor about that groupbuy so I'll see how good of a deal they have going. I'm between the retrax and the truck covers USA

    Thanks again !

    Nothing major
I too went with the Retraxpro XR, wanted to be able to install Yakima Overhaul HD bars over the top. Purchased here via the groupbuy, saved me a couple hundred over Amazon Prime, even considering the outrageous shipping to Hawaii. Significantly cheaper for mainland folks. Waiting patiently for arrival...

Thanks again everyone! I ended up going with the retrax pro xr through the group buy. Was too good of a deal to pass up.

Sorry if this is a bit off topic, or if it’s been asked already (I did a search but didn’t return up a specific answer), but does anyone know if the adjustable bed rails pose any difficulty with the Retrax installation? I’m in a 2021 longbed.
