Today I learned of a product called Flyzeye.
    Not sure why it exists.

Why would a product be made to shine too much light down at a shifter whose location is already known from muscle memory

instead of dimmer lights overhead shining at everything, to offer more light than pitch dark nothing.
Which is exactly what Audi and probably other companies have done for over 15 years.

Has anybody added this to their Tacoma?
    Am thinking of doing it.

For example, you can see at this dome console, two dots. Inside is a black plastic piece with two red LED's.
I'm not sure if it's always on/powered from a hot wire. Or maybe only comes on with lights turned on (night time)
Installing such a thing would probably be easy, and doesn't draw much electricity.

They also have had the option for lighting strips in the door trim, door handles, and rear overhead dome light panel for the passengers.

Not to mention puddle lights in the door panel, as well as red marker lights to show passing traffic when the door is open so they don't crash into it
    but that's a different topic

That thing looks like it's from 1982. If you want ambient lighting, get some dimmable LEDs, wire up a separate dimmer and have at it. Way more options that way.

Edit: nevermind I thought you were implying that you were going to install that abomination in your Tacoma. The Flyzeye stuff looks nice, but I'd rather build my own. Probably be cheaper in the long run and gives you more versatility.

Ok, so install some small 3-5mm recessed LEDs in your overhead console and be done with it?

if you remove your overhead console, the little puck between the map lights can be popped off. If there is enough room, this is where I’d put my LEDs.

the flyzeyes purpose was the exact same thing you are trying to accomplish, it illuminates the entire center console area and can be dimmed so it doesn’t have to be on full brightness. And it’s location allows you to tap into the HVAC lighting circuit to make it all rather easy for install. The company is selling remaining stock and has stopped production last I checked.
