Didn't the globe got heated up due to global warming issue already?
We did fine with the one and only HVAC system, and I don't know if all the luxurious heated equipment in our vehicles nowadays are necessity or manufacturers' profits booster! :notsure:

In my day we flew through the windshield like men and thanked the driver that caused the accident. All of you seatbelt wearers are soft and anyone who likes convenience is obviously stupid

Lol i"m pretty sure if my kids, ages 30 and 27, were magically transported back to the 60's and 70's they would perish.
There comes a point in time that the evolution of a product, such as a vehicle, can only go so far before a REVOLUTIONARY idea completely changes things.
You are correct... our vehicles are just like the model T with some changes. The funny thing is, the engines are just as inefficient as they were in the beginning. How long has it been? 125 years?
The electric car is still evolutionary change too. But it has got to the point where these changes are just silly. Is it more comfort? Maybe but how much comfort and convenience does someone need? That's my point.

I'm just going to assume the people calling this a frivolous feature have never driven in conditions that warrant it.

Freezing rain or wet snow with road spray is the worst. Windshield gets covered with dirt/water, the wipers freeze up and then smears it all over. It's downright dangerous at night. Can't see shit with oncoming traffic.

No, society has not become that weak.

It has become much, much more weak.

When conditions warrant it (below zero and interstate speeds), ample cold weather windshield wiper fluid and having the defrost on full tilt has always been enough to keep my windshield clean. Only issue would be running out of fluid, but it has been enough to keep the wipers from icing up. It would make more sense if the defrost blew lower on the windshield to defrost the blades, especially when you forget to pick up the blades before freezing rain/snow is on the way. Usually a few quick smacks on the windshield before setting off and using washer fluid as necessary to keep them clean has been enough in my case.

Are they 100% needed? No, but I'd like them and rear defroster too. Just yesterday driving my rear window kept freezing over from snow/sleet hitting it. Sucks having to pump the defroster at max and the cabin being a 1000 degrees just to keep the windshield clear.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
That only minimally helps when it's parked. We get ice buildup while driving.

I doubt it. Do I need a heated wheel and heat-on-demand seats? Nah. Do I push the buttons every time I climb into the sports hatch and take a second to appreciate it? Oh yeah.

It was enough that I took a side project to put hot seats into my truck. Man, rolling down the freeway with windows down and a hot ass on a 60 degree day... Bliss.

So, real answer to a real question. Allowing oneself luxury indulgences does not make one less tough or manly. It simply means that I can afford to appreciate a nice thing.

Getting a bit philosophical here but where does it end? For some reason I can't get that scene from the movie Wal-E that we are headed there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-kdRdzxdZQ

Snowed a little more last night, cleared it all out and chipped it off the blades. Some light stuff blowing around on my way in this morning though. Defroster melts it, runs down to the wipers, then it freezes on the blades since they’re below the area defrost warms up. So basically the idea I am getting is the test mules never left south Texas and/or California. I may keep my 20 year old Subaru after all, that thing was made for foul weather. I do hope the silver lining is that the A/C sucks when it’s hot out. :)

My reallly old vehicles, as I recall, had the blades parked where defrost would help quite a bit.

Those heated wipers are a neat idea but I don’t know if they could have made the execution look more like a thrown together prototype..

After drinking all day and pondering this question, I don't have an answer.

I think we're already there. We're at end stage sloth. The only thing I can think of to possibly make my life easier is either a machine that folds and hangs my laundry, or a machine that carries my ass from couch to shitter and back. That's pretty much it. Everything else gets hand delivered, should I desire.

My personal prediction is that cities in the future will swing away from personal transport and more back to the old ways of public transport and walking.

In the meantime, I might as well enjoy living like a fat fuck Nero.

My poverty pack SR has heated mirrors. It’s not only useful with ice but also condensation.

I’m on the fence about heated glass because all it did was make my windshield crack. I will not change my opinion on that.

    Heated wipers seem unnecessarily complex.

I will point out that many problems are solved if you use a heavy duty washer fluid/deicer that’s good to -40°F*

If you’re driving in temperatures colder than then I don’t know what to say.

*not legal in California at most elevations.
