I have a 2015 Tacoma and I want to have Apple CarPlay.... the thing is I’ve been thinking can I retrofit a stock head unit from a 2020 on it so it can be all “stock” or is better to go aftermarket? If I go aftermarket... can I still use my steering wheel controls and my microphone without running a new one? And what about the USB port? Can I still use the original one? Thanks in advance

I have a 2012 and recently installed a Kenwood with a Metra adapter. The adaptor allows me to retain the steering wheel controls, the USB port as well has hooks up to the OBDII so I can have trans temp, etc gauges. Worth it!

I needed a new mic, but was able to install the new one in the same location as the original. Works just fine.

I added a Sony headunit to my 2015 for this reason and really like it. I’d suggest going to the Crutchfield website and it’ll walk you through what you need. I have a bunch of steering wheel controls, back-up cam in reverse and more working.

so the head unit you’ve got behaves like stock radio then? Using the stock USB port and the stock mic right?

my truck didn’t have a mic that i know of, so I wired one in. The volume and track buttons work, as does the OEM USB port. Their website will walk you through it all.
