I posted this over in the discussion forum but haven't had any luck finding the answer. I'm finishing up the install soon and it would be great if I could find the answer before I get it all bolted back together.

I'm installing a Pioneer ND-BC6 backup camera on my 2004 Tacoma. On the back of the Stereo (Pioneer AVH-P8400bh) there is a wire that's labeled "Reverse Gear Signal Input." Any thoughts on where the best place to hook this wire would be?

according to the info I have:

Reverse Lights RED/BLACK (+) UNDER DASH FUSEBOX

Definitely test with a Digital multimeter, or you can always find it directly at the reverse bulb at the tailight. A lot of times the will also be in the sill under the carpet running to the rear of the truck.

Ohh and the Pioneer is looking for a (+) input for the signal. If you have any other questions, let me know. I am a MECP Master certified installer.

    Awesome thanks for the input.

So in layman's terms; I'm looking for a Red/Black wire under the dash fuse box. If I hook the Reverse Gear Signal input wire to this wire it should trigger the camera.

Also, what am I looking for if I test the wire. I'm assuming 12v.

Sorry if I'm asking obvious questions but I'm a noob when it comes to wiring.

yes, looking for a red/black wire around the fuse box area. Unfortunately, I can't recall having to tag that wire before or where it may be but it will probably be coming out of the fuse box in a harness. It should read 12v in reverse, and 0v in any other gear position.
