^^^^This. You can get an IPF kit for about $100. http://store.arbusa.com/IPF-Back-up-Light-Kit-8161-P3630.aspx

people all of a sudden worried about what is legal? get off your high horses. some dudes on this site have like 12 light bars - running all of those on the street is illegal in most places too. just be smart. run it on private land only. do not blind tailgaters with them.

easiest solution would be to buy some cheap aux lights from auto zone and wire them up. it'll cost like 50 bucks.

Not a solution to your question but I'm adding some backup aux lights today.

I have a Rhino step hitch insert and am mounting two aux lights on the underside. They will be wired to a 7-pin connection and come on in R only...Burners, Walmart, $18, about 2" x 1.5" rectangular. I'll post night shots when done.

Just want more light for the back up camera in the dark. There is a dead spot in the center about 10/15' out.

BTW. The lights come with a rocker switch. It would be easy to do what you are wanting to do.

This is what I plan on using mine for. No public roads. But, I use a different switch:

This man speaks the truth
If you tied in to your existing circuit you need to use a diode.

I would use a SPDT switch. If it is a lifted switch then you need ground. You could get a light on one side so it is illuminated when you have the "override" active and not when normal. Couple bucks for a switch and time tracing the wires
