I know there are some other discussions, particularly with the 2nd generation Tacomas, but I lost my reverse backup lights today after installing 2 Led 921 bulbs.

The install went great until I noticed that one of the bulbs seemed brighter than the other so I turned truck off and changed the polarity and now neither of them work. I tried to put OEM back ones in and they don't work either. My backup camera works fine and I have checked all fuses inside the truck and none of them are blown. I really don't want to go to the dealership and waste a day there!

Any ideas / suggestions? Thanks in advance

Its def a fuse. You checked engine bay and under the dash?

My guess would be bkup lamp 3 7.5amp on the internal fuse box under the dash. Actually test continuity with a multimeter. Just looking you cant always tell.

Thanks. I have checked all of interior fuses with a continuity tester with engine started and all working. Do you think a fuse under the hood could have blown? I read possibly a sensor attached to the transmission could have gone bad but not sure where that is or how to check (this was on the 1st and 2nd generation tacomas)

Nice on the tester. Yup, go through the engine fuse box next. You'll find the culprit.

I had my reverse lights go out on my frontier. Turned out to be a switch on the transmission. I didnt feel like changing it out so i traded for it a tacoma

Yeah, damn, I was just gonna say, that's like 2 different threads right now with this same issue. Like we're starting to have a little outbreak or something. Man! You just about can't belch, shit, or fart without effin' up these electrical systems. But if the polarity was reversed, then maybe I could see that being an issue cos I thought LEDs are polarized.

    Here is the circuit.

Go to the back light and verify ground and power. Then work your way from there. The relay would be next inline. Then the fuse.

I know this is an old thread but I just notice my reverse stopped working after a year or so of having LED bulbs with no resistor. Mine is a 2017 Tacoma SR5 but have checked all fuses visually and they are fine. I only see two reverse lights under the hood and two under the steering wheel. Haven’t tried testing the wires at the reverse lights.Reverse Camera works fine. Anyone have any pictures or links of videos on how to troubleshoot or fix this issue? Wished I knew not to install LEd without resistors for reverse lights.
