No. Ask OTT for the CARB sticker and paperwork and then increase selling price!

I'd just disclose to potential buyers that its tuned. For 80% of people, they'll be happy about it; but some people are purists, so doesn't hurt to just be open about it. If its not for them, cool, next buyer. The people who would be turned off by the tune would be the same people that would be turned off knowing it was reverted to stock tune from a tune, so the markets not for them anyways. Leave it be and just use it as a selling point.

There could be a financial burden for a future buyer to deal with installed tune. The goal posts keep on moving and the app/tunes are getting pricy

Is it tuned to run anything higher than 87 regular gas?
If not, don’t say anything. Much easier to deal with when people aren’t asking a million questions because 95% of people don’t know what a tune is or does.

And if it is AGM battery tuned and they replace the battery with a normal one there might be serious issues.

I would switch it back if they want. Or you can deny it and have the purchaser call you asking about it at some point in the future. Myself, I wouldn't buy a vehicle that has been tuned, it tells me it's been beat on. Or the owner was too cheap to buy the correct vehicle, which leads me to question what else have they gooned.

Just my personal opinion, but I’d think you’d have a much larger market of potential buyers (and fewer future headaches) if you made the vehicle as stock as possible.

I think the opinion about aftermarket tunes is misrepresented here because we are all Tacoma enthusiasts. If you ask some random person at a coffee shop, they’d probably want to avoid any used car with modifications.

When I traded mine in at dealer. I just put a few notes, in truck, explaining it's been tuned. Hoping dealer didn't remove so new owner would know.

Ethically one should disclose that its been tuned.

Path of least resistance is to say nothing.

Put it back to stock only if its a premium octane tune or something else equipment specific.

Opinions here both ways, must be confusing for you. I would be by the 50/50 response. What to do?

If you are selling it back to a Toyota dealer, and they plan to “certify” it as a Toyota Certified Used vehicle, I would revert it to stock.

If you are selling it to a non-Toyota dealer or private party, it’s your call.

The OTT tune support is non-transferable, so if you sell it with the tune, the new owner will incur some cost if they wish to receive continuous support and adjustments from OTT and the OTT network of tuners.

I doubt that would be an issue.
The factory voltage on these trucks is already on the low side of ideal even for a standard flooded battery (by about 0.4V). I think I've seen it stated the AGM tune is a 0.5V increase, which is only 0.1V higher than that.
(14.1-14.4 is best for FLA, 14.3-14.6 for AGM, so there is a slight overlap there).

I see no need to report a tune unless buyer asks. If you make a big deal about it, it will become one. Buyer will love the drive. If dealer flashes a system update, the custom tune will be gone.

Scenario. Buyer bought a truck for ,say, landscaping bussiness, but can't register due to failed emissions testing (ecm checksum does not match oem). The buyer spent x amount to fix and register and now takes you to court to recoup lost revenue and additional expenses.

Not worried about tune. Could be worse… Changed brakes, didn’t get the caliper bolts tight enough, added rear spacers and 5100s with larger tires throwing off center of gravity, installed larger head unit causing glare and distraction, added louder exhaust, might not hear the train. Vehicles are pretty much sold and traded as is. Just need to stay out of those crazy smog states.

OTT has a CARB exemption. Their tune was proven to California regulators to not cause an increase in emissions. If/when asked about a checksum slap your CARB letter in their face and point to your CARB sticker you installed under the hood next to the emissions sticker.
