Almost 4 years on my G4 cover and the locks are still good as the day I bought them. Nothing else need repair other then the rear weather strip needing to be reattached with a better adhesive.

I'm in construction and I also open and close my cover all day and everyday. No issues with anything falling apart.

I agree, I had mine for about 2.5 years with only the problem of the weather stripping coming loose at the rear. The lock and latch mechanisms were fine even after removing and reinstalling the entire cover several times. I live in So. California so the weather is probably a little more forgiving than for @chado33.

The G4 Elite is not available yet for the 2016 Taco but I plan to purchase one again unless the delay forces me to look elsewhere.

Got a new fold-a-cover on Black Friday at a nice discount for a final price of $770. Initial reactions are below.

    1. Instructions included with the packet are not so good. Key steps are missing and some are out of order. They will ask you to install the T-Nut with the 2 holes in it in the beginning steps. Make sure you install the T-Nut with 1 hole in it before that. The T-Nut with 1 hole is for the front of the truckbed and where you'll install the locking bolt. They also skip a step in asking you to bolt the windseal rails before the steps to even put the rails on. Don't get confused, just do it later.

    2. You do not need to install the rubber seals anymore. They have those already glued to the cover saving you a step! This is awesome of course since you don't need to buy a wheel or glue it on yourself.

    3. The center joint can bow up a bit. There is a metal catch in the middle of the tonneau cover to hold the center section down so you need press down on the middle of the tonneau cover when you close the rear panel to make sure it catches. It still bows up a bit but I'm going to see if i can flatten it out a bit by changing the position of the locking mechanism on the latch.

    4. As others have noted this takes a lot of adjustments. Finger tight EVERYTHING until you are 100% sure you are happy with the placement. If you are anal like me, make sure that you align based on the rear panel of the tonneau cover, not the front otherwise it will be out of alignment with the back of the windseal rails when you're done.

I'm realizing this post is USELESS without pictures. Standby for an update.

Scored a g4 off the flea market here for cheap, to trace the soft cover on my 12. Had to redo the tape on the windrails, it being an earlier model. I see the newer ones have tab brackets to bolt to truck.

No surprises, thanks to all the write ups here, thanks guys.

lol ok sorry. Day one it leaked but not horrible, but livable. Then at 3 years the hinge seals started to crack then Niagara falls started. There video is BS WRT how long. It's 4hrs + a seal for replacement. And that's if you are skilled. The at 5 years the center lock that hold the center the cover blows apart, seemingly beyond repair. Now the rivets just puled right thought. Now it looks like to totally beyond repair. I gave up and pulled it off the truck. Pic of latest break in post.

Oh and I got this from them: Total loss

" Thank you for contacting Steffens Enterprises, the makers of Fold-a-Cover.
We are sorry to hear about the condition of your panels. As an industry leader and a company with over 25 years of experience, we have a deep commitment to quality products and excellence in customer service. All of our covers are manufactured to the highest standards in our state-of-the-art ISO9001/ISO14001 certified facility in Caledonia, Michigan.
In our experience, this issue shown often occurs because there was some type of extreme force placed on the hinges that pulled the rivets out. This is most often caused by forgetting to strap the cover down before travelling or something heavy being placed on the cover. This issue is often accompanied by the panels gaining weight making it more difficult to fold and stack over time as well.
With replacement panels costing around $200.00 each before shipping, we generally state that if more than one panel needs to be replaced that we would consider the cover to be a total loss and would recommend replacing the entire unit. At this point we would recommend purchasing a brand new unit on our Factory Store website as your best solution. We understand that this is probably not what you are looking to hear, but unfortunately, the cover shown in the pictures is simply beyond the point of being repaired.
Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

    Thank you,
    Customer Service"

I'm about to pull the trigger on the fold a cover for my new 2017 Tacoma with the short bed. I'm curious about putting this on a short bed with 4 panels. Are all the panels the same size: about 15". Some pictures I've looked at give the illusion that the front and rear panels may be different sizes. I was concerned that 15" behind the cab would be small for a few things I would be putting there. Any advice and info are appreciated.
