Just dropped mine off this morning. I'm supplying new struts for the front. I replaced the rear shocks last fall @163K, no charge for install. They told me it'd be about a week. I'll be impressed if that happens. I got a Camry, o_O but I ain't bitchin', pretty nice set of wheels actually.

They had mine done in under a week, so it’s definitely possible

Quick question, how long after the inspection should it take to get an answer on if they’re going to replace the frame or not? Was told that they sent everything to Corporate and would be reviewed by some engineer and they’d call me. But who knows how long that could take ‍

Thanks! Was it the dealership or someone from Toyota who called?

In my case, I didn't even consider whether there was additional approval necessary. I was told that any hole over 10 mm (which I had a few) was automatic replacement. But who knows...maybe I'll get a call at some point to either confirm or deny the replacement. In the meantime I've been enjoying the new ride, especially the Sirius radio and Bluetooth ;)

Is there a way to get notified of these "warranty enhancements"? I can't find anything on the Toyota website about Customer Support Programs or anything like that.

You won’t find anything on Toyota’s website. Here’s the link to the actual class action lawsuit and what you’re entitled to. Welcome to TW

Honestly, it would be the one email subscription I wouldn't mind receiving. I just got this damn truck and I wanna take care of it.

Agreed, I made an account on Toyota's website and registered my vehicle with Toyota. My account has my email and mailing address on it. I bought my truck used from a non-toyota dealer. I assume anything important from toyota should come if there were recalls etc.

FWIW, and I'm going on memory, but I received a letter from Toyota in 2014 telling me about the issue and recommending that I bring the truck in for an inspection. I did and they didn't find any perforation. I was told that they used a hammer and punch at certain points on the frame to try to measure the integrity of the steel and to see if it had corroded.

Since I didn't have any signs at the time, they applied a spray and sent me on my way. There was also an attachment to the letter for me to include in the operating manual that came with the truck. (I'd look now but my book is in the truck which is parked at the dealer). The notification was that the frame warranty had been extended to 12 years from the date of the truck being put into service. Other than having seen some rust on the frame that I noticed in the course of getting new wheels and tires this year I probably never would have thought to call and ask for the latest inspection. I got lucky here as my extended warranty is soon to expire.

Here's an interesting 'coincidence' and maybe accounts for why I was a little sensitized about the issue. I bought my truck from a buddy when it was 6 months old. He'd had a Gen 1 that he'd brought into the dealer for some routine service- it was a few years old at the time. They called him into the service area when the truck was on the lift and told him that he could no longer drive the truck. They showed him where the frame had rusted out and told him that it was unsafe. They offered him a substantial trade valuation on his older truck if he'd consider buying a new one and my buddy took them up on the deal. 6 months after he bought the new truck, his life changed and he offered it to me. I've always had his experience in the back of my mind and it was something I was thinking about when I brought mine in recently.

Funny thing- Just back from Home Depot. An 09 Tacoma pulled up next to me as I was parking. The other driver asked me how I liked the new truck and I explained why I had it. We talked a bit and I said- I can't imagine how much this must be costing to do these replacements- he said that he'd had his replaced last year and the service mgr told him it was costing between $14-17K per vehicle depending on what they had to do.

    Ouch-
