So as I've gotten older, Ive realized that using things as they were designed to be used is the best course of action, which brings me my question on 4low. I just read this thread, and a couple posters suggested you can blow your transfer case if driving at high revs in 4 low, or at the very least do some damage. I was under the impression that it is ok to rev the engine to your hearts content in 4Low just as much as in 4Hi/2WD. I would think a well-oiled transfer case would be designed to handle the forces of the engine up to redline in low-range all day long. Can someone in the know chime in here. Thanks!

How would revving your engine in 4 low blow your transfer case?

It won’t. It’s just reduction gearing, nothing fancy.

Revving your engine just makes you sound really fast while going really slow.

Heres one of the posts from the thread I linked to...I dont understand it either, as it seems like they would have a separate 4 low redline if that was the case (which would be lame) and just doesnt make sense from a design standpoint

I think any truck bouncing on red line for long durations is a bad idea in general because it does increase risks but not sure how being in 4lo would matter.

Even Big Mike revvs his truck with dual transfer cases. Red line RPMs and crawling at 5 mph

I haven't redlined the engine in 4 low but I beat everything I own like a rented mule and it hasn't broke yet. If it breaks it will get upgraded.
