Reward mine CA

Left OC around 2AM to get to Mt Whitney at sunrise to see it light up. Lasts about 5 minutes. Drove around the Alabama Hills for a bit then headed to reward mine just north of Lone Pine.

Tip: don’t use google maps because it takes you up a much harder map.

Went solo so had no spotter but front camera really came in handy. Driving into the mine was cool but if you have claustrophobia don’t do it. About 200 yards in you lose site of the opening and it just goes deeper and deeper for about 1/4 mile.

Good times.

 

Love the lower eastern Sierra. My dad and I climbed Mt. Whitney a few years ago, was a very awesome and extremely tiring hike lol

 

The mine is a fun drive at night. No reference of the end.

 

You can drive IN the mine?? I've been by this a number of times but never knew you could drive in. GREAT pics by the way!

^^^this. See all those roof bolts? If the mine is abandoned, it also means nobody is inspecting nor maintaining them anymore...

NOW you tell me..

We went camping at alabama hills and tried to find the reward mine. Ended up going up a steep hill with SUPER loose rock, buried the wheels half way up, and decided to reverse all the way down the hill.. haha

 

You can't get there in a mini van.
