Just got off the phone with the head of Caldwell Co Land Records and Major Jarden (sp?)...they said that anything past the bridge (including the bridge and the creek) is PRIVATE and the only way you can access the remainder of the road is if you are A) a land owner or B) have permission from land owner. They also said this only applies to the Caldwell Co side, but assumed it would be the same for the Watauga Co side.

If you go past this point with out being a land owner or do not have permission from a land owner past this area you are trespassing. The road from this point forward is NOT state maintained, therefore the local residents can deem it private, which they have.

(see the Stop sign? It's there for a reason...aka TURN AROUND)

Thanks for sharing Matt. I'll try and spread this info around some other places.

Hey at least I can say that I've been now...glad that we went and I got to run it at least once, albeit we weren't really supposed to be there lol.

I don't feel too bad about it. If everyone that rides the trail stayed on the trail and respected it like us we I don't think the land owners would have a problem. It's those guys that wave at each other every time they pass on the road that screw it up for the rest of us.

Just looked up Busted Knuckle that is a pretty big park or it sounds big at 600+ acres.

Ran it once as well. Glad I can say I did.
However, I wasn't impressed. Nothing technical about that trail, including the gatekeeper.
