Richland Rd staging area - Partial Private Property/closed

The forest service roads around Linville Gorge/Table rock can get you far enough out where you won't see anyone. Plus it's all free camping. The forest ranger told me "If you can get there you can camp there" .

 

Hmm, might have to check that out. Are there primitive camping sites or just camp where you like?

 

There are primitive sites scattered along the road, some are more private than others. Take everything you need, you will be 8-10 miles out in the woods. If it's not Verizon it won't work.

 

Search Old Nc 105 or look through my posts. I can post my location Friday if anyone wants to join. I'll be there around 3. Maybe hit Richland Saturday morning???? I have no plans, just getting away.

 

Some are smaller, but this is what to expect.

 

Cool, we have Verizon, and yeah we pack in all our own supplies pretty much where ever we are.

 

Take firewood or buy some along the way up the mountain.

 

Is this a site off Kistler Memorial Highway/Old 105?

Yes, But I haven't been since all the fires in that area so it may not be there anymore.

I'll post my location on Old Nc 105 Friday when we get to a spot, if anyone wants to camp. We should be there around 3. If anyone else would like to just hit Richland Saturday morning we can all meet somewhere.

 

We stayed there last month.

 

I figured a lot of that area was burned. It needed a clearing.

 

That looks like an awesome campsite. Have a GPS location?

 

I might be in. I'm driving to Oklahoma this weekend and figured I should see some trails along the way. I will be stopping at Southeast Overland Saturday morning first, then maybe up to Richlands road or Horse pasture road. Staying up near Asheville is a little out of the way.

Even though you will be close to Horsepasture when you are at Southeast Overland its really not worth doing if you want to go on a trail. The views are great but a Toyota Camry can make it up there. Mustergrounds and Gorges State Park are both near Horsepasture and much more "off road trails".

 

Awesome, thanks for the advice. I've been interested in Mustergrounds too. More than likely I'll be going solo so I might take to easy road and get some pictures.

 

Anyone hitting Richland in the morning? Out on Old Nc 105 now.
