Thanks, your rig has some nice kicks too! haha

    Thanks gents! Keep it low!

Appreciate it! I'm quite confident doing stills but this video thing blows my mind. Lots to learn! haha

Glad you stopped by, always love seeing pics of your tacoma on flickr. Such a nice rig.

    updates

    Truck is rolling again!
    - 4.56 Yukon Gears
    - ARB Air lockers front and rear
    - TRD Long Tube Headers
    - DirtyDeeds/"Mad Scientist" lol stainless custom center section (Y-Pipe, Magnaflow hi-flow cats)

I have a popping/clicking sound coming from the front end that I need to troubleshoot. Only occurs when driving slow and usually when the suspension cycling and/or when I'm turning. Hope it's nothing major.

Just need to be patient and NOT flog the truck. Need to drive around in 4WD for 500kms to properly break the gears in. No high speeds, and no long distance trips. So I can't even make any real "driveability" comparisons with the gears and new exhaust until then.

My brother and I snapped a couple pics for fun last night since it was the first time I've really driven my truck in over 2 months.

A couple weeks ago I was back in Nelson BC visiting my fam. Grabbed a couple photos of my Dad's truck at a pretty wicked old mill location:

The last photo of the wheel

Looks like I could touch my monitor and feel the rubber! Great shot.

And thanks man, been a really fun project truck. Would have missed out on meeting some awesome people if it weren't because of it too! Are you headed stateside this summer? Particularly WY? I know Monte mentioned something but wasnt sure if you were hooking up with them as they head out of Washington later this summer.

    Thanks man!

Not sure about Stateside this year. I'll be dropping into Oregon in August but not so much doing any wheeling per say. I was really hoping to meet up with Monte and the crew this year but I am getting married the weekend they were thinking of popping up into Canada, so I might not be able to make it ;)

Next year though, as I plan to start doing a yearly journey down to the US. Maybe even a couple time next year.... Need to hit the Rubicon and head back to NorCal. Would also like to do Moab area again. Wyo is on the list as well. Lots to explore.

Well this thread is long overdue for some updates.... here we go.

On the way to Cruisin' Offroad for some new custom goodies (also changed up the wheel color... thanks as always SCS!):

Once I was back in Calgary and the truck was getting worked on in Vancouver, I started to do a parts inventory, lot's of goodies waiting install:

    IMG_4845.jpg
    by Addison Rickaby, on Flickr

In addition to the above I will be doing coil tower gussets when the front end is torn completely apart. Might even try to weld these in myself but we'll see. Also doing new OEM front wheel bearings and LCA bushings once I tear into it. Lots of work but the entire front end will be pretty much new. The Baja Designs XL-Pro lights will replace the small Rigid Duallys up front. The Rigids will be going to the tent cage for rearward/camping lighting. The rear Fox shocks are 10" stroke so they are longer than the off-the-shelf Fox shocks for the rear of the Tundra. These have a longer compressed length but I can't use all of the uptravel anyway and need more droop instead. I am hoping to gain 2-3" of droop by running these longer shocks. Still planing on Chevy 63's with air bumps and 12" Fox CDC 2.5" shocks in the spring but who knows, if this setup turns out nice enough I may just run them as-is for a couple seasons.

Picked up the truck last weekend from Cruisin Offroad in Chilliwack BC. Jason is a great guy to deal with and I am very pleased with the outcome. You can tell he is very creative in his craft and we worked well bouncing ideas off one another. I had a sketch of the rack done ahead of time and how I wanted it built but he was able to make valid suggestions from his perspective that made the product better overall. I'm already making plans to head back there sometime next year for aluminum skid plates and some hybrid bumpers f/r.

    First up, the sliders.
    - DOM tubing
    - Dimpled filler plates on the kickout
    - bolt on using existing holes
    - Full length mounting (need to get a pic of this, truly BEEFY)
    - satin powdercoat

    Now, the bed cage.
    - Bedside mounted still allowing the mounting of my Tonneau Retrax cover - awesome to keep dust out of my gear and it's lockable
    - front section utility rack for Maxxtraxx, shovel, axe, or RotoPax
    - Rear removable roll bar for canoe rack
    - Satin powdercoat
    - Retains ~80% of rear visibility
    - Mounts for lights or wind fairing
    - rear light tabs for reverse/camping lights

Close up of some of the details:
    IMG_4867.jpg

And a shot on the truck - Also got the Baja Designs XL Pro Lights installed. Unfortunately haven't had a chance to run them at night yet. Still planning on a full write up for those...

As I type this the ARB Rooftop tent is already installed on the rack and the rear bar has been removed (as was intended until I'm hauling a canoe up there!) I'll get some good pics of the whole setup this weekend.

Couple more photos with the tent on and some shots of the mounts for the sliders:

    Sure man! PM incoming.

Thanks, Western Alberta and BC have endless outdoor options to explore, I'm very lucky to be so close.

Thanks! I shoot with a Canon 6D and have some L-Series glass. I love camera's as much as my truck I think! haha

    UPDATE

Just got back from 2 weeks on the road for my honeymoon road trip. We travelled from BC to Portland and back. Just a few of my favorites from the trip:

Was lucky enough to hit the trail for the day yesterday. Long day with lots of snow. Very interesting conditions as the snow was virtually like sand. It would not pack no matter how many times you would drive forward/reverse over a section. Made it very difficult to control direction and traction was almost non existent, it was strictly a formula of wheel speed and RPM. The rev limiter was used thoroughly this day.

Doug is looking awesome. Congrats on the marriage (I know I'm way late) and amazing work on the truck.

How was the power difference since installing the 4.56? Also what Fox rear shocks did you get? The standard 0-1" for Tundras?

    Hey Rob thanks!

Power difference with the 4.56 was a nice change. I was rocking the factory 3.91 gears with 35s for almost a year and it wasn't that bad to be honest. The 2UZ has enough torque as you well know. But I definitely noticed it from acceleration. Where the stock gears felt sluggish with big tires off the line, the truck now feels basically identical to stock. RPMs are still at like 2200RPM at 65 mph so not very high which is what I wanted. I do way too much highway travel to justify dropping down to 4.88s. I can also definitely notice the extra reduction on the trail. I would say with the gears, headers, and full exhaust with the truck unloaded, I'm probably slightly faster than a stock non-vvti Tundy. I've got my eye on a S/C that is for sale locally though ;)

My rear Fox shocks are 12" stroke, not the typical 8" stroke for the 0-1" lift ones. I have not modified the factory rear bump stops and the 12" stroke shocks have about half an inch of compression stroke left once the truck hits the bumpstops. Basically the best bolt in setup out there. Tons more droop the the 0-1" shock that fox specs. I have no idea why the stroke is so short on those.... Lots more info about them on my build thread over on Expo. I think I posted the P/N there somewhere or if you want it I can dog it up for you, just let me know.

Thanks for the reply. Good to hear about the 4.56's. I don't plan on regearing yet, but would love to in a year or so and pick up some 285/75/17's. Right now the power is fine with my 285/70/17's as I have the vvti, but I plan on adding more weight down the line and tow. A SC would be sweet, do it!

Thanks for the info on the fox. I don't understand why they only lisy the 8" as that's just too short. I'll check out your expo thread for the part number.
