are you looking to keep the passive crossover on the front doors, or want to go full active?

truthfully, you're not going to get much better sound out of the rear speakers no matter what money you throw at them. the doors just aren't conducive to decent sound.

i put the same amazing speakers i have in my front doors in my rear doors just to try, as well as changed the head unit-- other than adding an amp, this was almost the best situation the rear doors could ask for. all i got was muted, flat, tinny sound, comparable to a cheap 4" speaker... i disconnected them after a day and just use the front speakers.

uh... if the current HU is sending me (for instance) 4 watts of power, and you upgrade and send an additional 35-40 watts of power, you will get more sound.
As for the doors, I've already sound deadened everything, and the fronts sound fantastic now.

I can see the added benefit of adding a DSP/amp, as I can manually correct the sound and send it the correct version, fully powered and not dumbed down by the HU.

You can fix rears by just using a single source stereo input to the amp then assigned to all outputs. You can do it with most of these amps. Circumvents whatever dafuq toyota is doing with those rear fill speakers. hI dont even use rears they are disconnected. Wall of sound in the front.

True, you have equal power, the db of the output is still low. If you turn up the gain (it’s NOT a volume knob), you clip the signal. It may sound louder, but it’s damaging your speakers. Remember, garbage in, garbage out.

Another reason I tend to default to Crutchfield if they carry what I'm looking for is their return policy. It's basically no-questions asked. I've called them a few times on a gamble, thinking they wouldn't accept the return, and they sent a label for a return. I was floored.

Well. Have everything minus the DSP.
That is scheduled to arrive tomorrow afternoon.
Can't wait to tear everything apart, and run the new wire

Everything turned out fan freaking tastic.
super happy with how it's working. was it a pain? yeah, running all new wires to the speakers was pretty time consuming. Once all the wires were run, everything went smooth as butter.
Seriously though, running the wires through the boots between the body and the door was the most difficult part, and just took patience to get the wires through.
DSP install was pretty easy, and tuning it went smooth also, as I have access to 2 laptops, and can run the sound check software on one pc, and then tune the dsp via the other laptop.

I just got all my stuff in today … hoping this Audiocontrol LC-5.1300 can fit neatly under the seat without the need to lift the seat…. Maybe do a bracket like the oem audio…. If you have any pics I would love to see them for ideas

I got a bracket from the website that shall not be named. It fits under the front passenger seat.
Have fun. The install isn't too bad. just kind of tedious.

I did get seat jackers for the passenger seat, to give the amp as much room as possible. I did remove the passenger seat for the install, since you have to remove all the bolts anyway, a few wire harness's and it's out. Just be sure to disconnect the battery, airbags and all that.
