Exactly my point. Unsprung weight is the key word. Its gonna destroy the truck in my opinion. The vibration has worn holes through my tranny lines, power steering lines, shorted out wiring harnesses etc, and the ball joints are screaming i can feel that. Im trying to make the 3/4 ton last as long as possible, wires start rubbing excessively in a diesel, better bring your stacks of money when you go to pick it up from the shop. Its a diagnostic nightmare. Just has another short and the problem is, the trucks threw codes for a "camshaft position sensor" and "MAP" sensor. The MAP sensor was fairly easy to get to but the CS sensor was buried. Replaced both of those to find the truck still having issues. It was a short all along which required 4.5 hours of labor pulling the wiring harness out and checking each wire.

Boom, knowledge bombs from someone who has tried all the options. Thanks so much yeah the caliche and sand pockets getting pushed out on the lease roads are something I've never had to contend with. I thought the Bakken was bad when i was there but looking back those roads there would be like winning the lottery to me now. Hell those lease roads up there are better than some of the paved roads in the permian haha. I'll check that for an option thanks again!

The installation of the Kellderman Air Ride required 8 hours labour to install the rear bag so it was a good thing that I had it done 17 years ago when shop labour charges where way less than today. IIRC the total installed cost back then was $1800. (Back then the truck MSRP for a '91 Dodge Cummins 4X4 was $28,000, about $4,500 more than a gas V8). $$$ is in Canadian dollars and I don't recall what the value difference was back then between US and Cdn $$.

The 6" diameter front air bags have their own air tank and to fit the system in place the anti sway bar had to be permanently removed. But since the '91 Dodge Cummins has a solid front axle, the anti sway bar didn't really do anything in regards to tying the front wheels together and isn't really needed.

The stock PRO rides the best. I have had 4 Tacomas and the PRO is expensive, but a lot of people by the Off Road 4x4 (Not 4x2) and upgrade to PRO shocks or Kings or Bilsteins(I would get those).

Cheaper way to go. But an SR5 will just get beat up if what you say about the conditions are true.

Howdy neighbor. I'm also in the NM oil country. I'm retired but I still use the lease roads frequently to go out black powder shooting and stuff. My OR was a pretty soft ride stock but I've since upgraded a bit with an old man emu lift kit. It stiffened the ride a bit but it's still not bad. After 2 years the rough stuff hasn't hurt anything. It's still in perfect condition and nothing is falling off. That's the famous Toyota quality. And welcome to TW.

In need of a basic ass work truck? Better off getting an XL F150 4x4, super crew, long or short bed (depending on your needs)

Yes. I’m very happy with them.

Although I admit I was happy with the KO2s on my Jeep’s, too. I just wasn’t 100% sure I’d like these Generals just as much. Turns out I do. I just needed to take a leap of faith.

Can’t go wrong with either tire.

Most American businesses give the business to American made businesses so they buy American trucks, even if they don't want to. They get a fleet discount and get the cheapest most basic truck made.

Actually Ford has an very profitable, enviable commercial truck business that it has developed over many decades. No other automaker comes even close. GM and FCA lag far behind Ford. For years Ford Econoline held like 50% of the cargo van business, and Ford has retained its share with the new Transit. Ford F-Series also holds the lion share of commercial trucks.

Nissan has tried to build a commercial business with Titan, NV2500 and NV200, but a decade later it isn’t a shade of the domestics.

Aldo love the pictures. We are like brothers from another mother. I have a '19 TRD OR DC and an '18 Mazda MX5--the Fiata's twin. (I also have a Fiat 500L.)

I enjoy driving each of them about as much as the other, just such a different experience. This week is Miata week, but if the weather turns ugly again it's back to the Tacoma.
