Keep an eye on this post. We've been meeting up every month to eat and hand out. We've also talked about doing a wheeling trip soon.

Hey guys, I'll be headed back up to North East GA, Clayton area, in mid October for our yearly trip.

Any trail recommendations you guys can throw my way? The plan is Columbus > Atl > Helen > Clayton > anywhere from there. I ran Tallulah River Rd., Charlie's Creek Trail, FS Rd 163, and part of Warwoman WMA on my last trip.

Any other recommendations for the area? I've heard Tray Mtn trail is near Helen? I'd like something that requires 4WD but doesn't require sliders/skids. Heck even a dirt road with good scenery will scratch the itch.

Tray has apparently gotten a little worse, so maybe sliders are needed. I'm not sure, haven't hit it in a while

Anybody been up Tray/Chimney Mtn since Hurricane Irma? Any storm dage, trees down? Going to try it tomorrow or Friday (28 or 29 September 17).

I messaged someone about it on instagram a few days ago who said there was a large tree down on the lower end of the trail (I'm assuming closest to Chimney?) that they had to make a trail around in order to get up and Irma hit the trail pretty hard on the washouts. Best I could tell that info was a few weeks old. I wish I knew more details, but that's as much as I've found out so far.

Let me know how it looks when you make it up there. It's on my itinerary still for next month's trip.

My wife and I did Tray Mt/Chimney Mt today. Going the east side was a piece of cake. We stopped at the top and hiked up a mile or so to the peak of Tray Mt on the Ap. Trail, then came back down the Chimney Mt side. The washout areas made for some slow going but we made it OK. Definitely would not rate this as an "Easy" trail. The trail was passable but there was obviously a lot damage from Irma. Looks someone went to a lot of effort to clear all the downed trees and debris off the road. Thought I had recorded the whole trip but had a SNAFU with my video camera.

Didn' see anyone else on the trail, but I'm sure it would be different story on the weekend, specially with October fest going on in Helen.

Overall, a great ride. Even though the wife had a few panic attacks, she enjoyed it.

Tomorrow we're going to try to hit Dick's Crk, Charlies Crk, Barefoot Rd, and maybe Coopers Crk (?).

BTW, my truck is TRD Sport 4X4, stock lift, no armor or lockers. Bottomed out a few times, but no obvious damage.

Glad to hear a stock rig can at least go down it. You think you could go up the Chimney (Fun  ) Side? With the proper spotting of course

Definitely maybe. There's a few spots where the washouts could make life interesting. It probably looks more intimidating than it really is. Not sure I would try it as a single vehicle. Definitely not with just my wife.

Very close to the east end of Charlies Creek. It's only a mile or so.
