I’ve had my lift on my truck for almost a year now (5100s, 882, 3 leaf AAL,) and I have to admit it rides like crap. I am just skating over every bump. There is no dampening happening, and it doesn’t feel like “just light empty bed” symptoms.

the AAL gave me a weird amount of lift in the rear, like 4 inches (level in the front with 882 and no weight.) Could my 5100s be maxed out or something? My stock leafs weren’t negative but they were pretty flat. Would Dakar’s improve this any?? I’m leaning towards ditching the 5100s and getting OME all around and Dakar’s. But can’t tell if this will make a difference.

Any input or personal experience is greatly appreciated!

I’m thinking of maybe getting the all pro pack. I thought the progressive AAL was supposed to be better but in reality it just acts as a lift block.

If an add a leaf gave you 4 inches of lift and now you ride "like crap", I would remove that thing and retest drive first thing! Deaver Springs would set you up nicely.

882 are for use with a plate bumper, you have virtually no down travel, and they are the tallest and stiffest spring as far as up travel.
Aal is just a cheap band aid as well. And your slaping them into already worn springs. There not really designed to work together, and are not a replacement for an entire pack.
Put a set of 883 coils and wheelers 5 leaf or deaver packs on and you'll love it.

the front doesn’t ride so bad. Yeah I don’t have the ideal setup without a plate bumper, but it’s fine. The 881 I had before were too soft. Anyways, It’s really just the rear that’s bothersome. I guess AAL was a bad call. And 883 would prob ride just as stiff if not worse.

deavers would be nice but may be out of my price range. Although the all pro pack looks like a nice setup between Dakar and Deaver, would you all agree?

I just installed the full OME kit from Wheelers Off-road and it improved my ride quality drastically. It rides so nice now and lots of dampening happening on bumps and bad roads. The other nice part was it got rid of almost all my suspension noise (old had nearly 300k on it). This also resolved the last bit of my high-speed shaking/vibration (above 70 MPH).

The folks at Wheelers were great to work with and everything arrived and installed quite easily. Only thing they/I didn't account for was that the bump stops in the rear (on top of leafs/under u-bolts) needed drilled out a touch to fit over the larger amount of threads sticking out of the spring pack.

Here is a link to the item, I went with 883's because my bumper and winch will add a considerable amount of weight. But even then, the ride in the front isn't all that stiff (somewhat stiff though as expected till weighted properly).

I have the all pro 3 inch setup with 5100s in the rear and I love it. They ride really nice and handle weight really well. I tow probably every other week with it and they hold the weight nicely. All pro makes an expedition pack if you plan on having weight in the bed permanently. I have noticed a little bit of axle wrap sometimes but nothing compared to the stock setup. I’ve been running them for probably 2 years now and no complaints. Lots of flex.

As far as your awful ride right now, I’d say your shocks are just maxed out. With 4 inches of lift on what sounds like stock shocks, that will cause your rear end to have no down travel. It makes even the slightest bump a nightmare. I had fox 2.0’s in the rear for stock height and thought maybe they’d work with the all pro leaf pack. I was very wrong. Only took me a few weeks to order some 5100’s that are designed for lift. It was like riding in a dump truck. I bought 500lbs of sand bags and rode around with those in the bed until I could get my new shocks in and installed.

Nice! yeah im think im set on All Pro standard pack. seems like a really good improvement over my current tractor setup. I do have 5100s in the rear. Youre saying those will be maxed out too?

882s are taller but not the stiffest...the 883s are. 880s, 881s and 882s are all 500lb springs, difference is that the 882s are a bit taller and provide more lift. The 883s are the same length as 882s but are 590lb springs.

882s are fine for a stock front end if you want close to 3" lift.

those 5100 are likely designed for only 0-1" of lift

yea 5100s are in no way designed for that much rear lift...I'm surprised they haven't started leaking oil or blown out by now. I don't really know of any shocks out there designed for 4" of rear lift, but both Icon and Fox make a 2.0 rear shock for our trucks that's good for up to 3" of rear lift. When you put new leaf packs in and they settle down you should be at or around 3", assuming you go with the All Pro standards

I have the Icon 2.0s in the rear with my All Pro Expo leaf packs (designs for heavier rear ends), they work great

Also not sure if you mentioned it already but with 3" of rear lift you're going to definitely want to extend your rear brake line...the stock one will be pretty maxed out and if you flex it too much offroad it could break.

yeah all of that is taken care of. I maintain my truck religiously, and make sure it's all good to go. Just made a impatient decision with the rear suspension

aren't there Billys that are designed for more than an inch of lift, without having to buy Icons? I'm not cheap, I just don't really wheel hardcore, just the occasional weekend romp, and don't want to get something i wont really use to its potential.

Bilstein 5125s work with up to 3" of rear lift
