Leu VXII 3x9x40 is an excellent scope for the price. (~300). works fine out to 500 and beyond.

    WOW:eek:
Good Price... I don't have Bass Pros around here! The bad part is Leupold factory or actually the assy plant is about 20 minutes away from me and I do all their Importing from Asia and they refuse to give discounts. All the parts are imported from Asia now then assembled in the US, so they're able to stamp made in USA. Kinda sucks that they're able to get away with that! I've been a HUGE Burris supporter as of late!

Burris, Nikon and Bushnell Elite offer great scopes less than $300.
That plus Swift Premier is all I own.

I've never heard of Swift until recently, how do you like the premier? I've got a cousin wanting to sell me a new swift 4.5-14x44 mil dot for $75. Not sure if I can use it on the gun I need a scope for with the current mounts but it looks like a quality piece. Worth it at that price?

Sorry to the OP for hijacking.

for your purpose, 3x9, 4-12 or 4-14 would be good.
Quality of glass and coatings is more important than magnification.
Stick with 40mm objective, unless you want something that has the dimension of a bazooka in front of you.
    Bulk is not good.
    FYI

You will get what you pay for in a scope. Its all about the quality of the internal glass and coating. I just went through this experience and I was sold on Zeiss scopes out of the gate. They are on the high end of the pricing scale but worth it IMO. They are supurb at low light gathering, no fog, and you get several choices of reticles.

Zeiss 3x9x40 is around $470 though. I just put a Zeiss 4.5x12x50 on my new remington 700 XHR 270 cal.

I would never discourage anyone from getting a Zeiss. Same for SWaro, Meopta, US Optics, Nightforce.
The upper end is there for a reason.
I take exception with "you get what you pay for"
There are good values and there are overpriced scopes.
Leupold is a perfect example of overpriced.
Decent, not great, and you're paying for the the one in the box and its' replacement.
