I feel like you have a hard on for talking shit lol.
    from BD
"As of now none of our lights are street-legal or DOT approved. The most street-friendly setup is the Squadron Sport in Wide Cornering (amber or white). We do have many customers running these without issues. We've also heard of people being flashed by oncoming traffic so it comes down to how the lights are aimed and driver discretion. "

They clearly say they arnt DOT approved. I also dont see them insisting they are street friendly.

I never once said they claimed SAE/DOT compliance. And here, let me show you BD claiming “street friendly” when I challenged them in post #324:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-gen-16-18-more.423635/page-17#post-16531347

You can think I “talk shit” all you want. What I aim to do is actually educate people on real world engineering facts backed by evidence at my own expense (not sponsored) from my automotive engineering background so that people can make informed decisions. I don’t give “polite reviews”, I give real independent unfiltered ones. I’m sorry I picked on your favorite vendors product, but nothing I said was in any way inaccurate. They make great products, but they are not suitable for street use.

Thanks crashnburn80 for the info, and demonstration of the two lights. It's pretty clear what the differences are, and people can make up their own minds.

I liked the defined pattern of the ridgid lights. For one thing, less light is wasted by being diffused. Do the cut offs limit the effectiveness of the lights when actually used in heavy fog? Can you see well enough to take corners? Anyone with real world experience?

Any body running those Rago mounts? I have another company's fog light mount with a generic pod. Yes they are bright and light up the road. But they are not at all a fog light. They throw light every where and I get flashed a lot. So I am looking to replace them after only 1 year of having them.

The cut offs improve effectiveness in poor weather driving. That is the purpose of the fog pattern with clean cut offs. In inclement weather the last thing you want is light above the horizon, especially high color temp light from LEDs as this is reflected back at you by rain/snow/fog and greatly reducing vision.

I have many fogs to try out, I haven’t done a driving test with the Rigids yet. A fog pattern will throw a wide beam, but a wide cornering will likely be wider. I’ll have a better comparison of throw width later.

Yeah you want to avoid forward facing LED designs with a clear lens like that for street use. Aside from blinding others you get a lot of wasted output into the air, vs focused light where you want it.

There are SAE fog pods that use a center body mount that will fit the CaliRaised fog pod mount. I’ve tested the compatibility for mounting these, but not yet driving. While the raw lumen spec on these are close to Rigid, the power is much less so I’d expect the Rigids to perform better. There are a handful of other more powerful options I have that will fit as well but I haven’t tested them out yet.

Your quote got a bit mixed in up there.

I could possibly try to measure the side projection beam angle of the Rigids to give an idea of proximity lighting, wouldn’t be too difficult to test in a pod.

An LED fog/pod will likely have not as wide of a throw while maintaining cut offs as the OEM fogs. There are a few LEDs though that use rear facing LEDs in an LED designed reflector that may accomplish this, I just haven’t tried them out yet.

Here is what I run that provides excellent side lighting for a forward facing light. Down near the bottom there are some 45 degree side lighting output photos.

The products have been out for years, they were not just launched. The XLs are new, and selective yellow is a new color as of this year, but the white SAE fogs have been out for some time, pretty sure they were the very first to build an SAE led fog pod.

crashnburn80 - kind of new to this whole scene. The website said this was a new amber light in the D Series and a couple of others. I thought the link went there. My apologies if I mis-spoke. I'm here to learn from you guys so I can do this right and have a little fun with my truck.

No worries. The amber (selective yellow) version is new in 2019, I pitched the product idea to them in 2018, but the SAE series lights have been out for a while.

I cover all the SAE fog lights that will mount in the stock location in this thread, including the Rigid white and Selective Yellow fogs.
