    Hi guys,

New to the forum, I've had my 2014 Tacoma SR5 4wd Double Cab since 2015. Put some BFG KO2's on it, and after almost 80k miles, they're getting tired. Figured it was a good time to put a 3" lift and stuff some 33's in there.

Any suggestions on chrome or brushed aluminum rims? I've seen a few threads but they seemed to die down a few years ago and I'm not the best at navigating this site yet.

    Thanks

    Just a heads up.

You'll get a lot of pooh pooh on your cosmetic selection around here. Still lots of 'black wheel' fans on board.

In general a 3" lift will cause more issues than a 2.5 (requirement for UCAs for alignment, CV angles, etc) and if you have the right wheel fitment the lift doesn't impact the tire fitment much anyway.

Have you looked over the assortment of OE wheels for 3rd gen Tacomas and various 4 runners? Some of those look real nice on 2nd gens and can be had for bargain prices. Because black wheel fan bois.

Welcome to TW. The bad news is that chrome is not in high fashion at the minute. The good news is that a lot of people are ditching their nice chrome parts for cheap. You can find a bargain. Look at the stock 2016+ off road or sport wheels. The stock 4runner wheels look really good too.

I've seen the doomsdayers knocking the chrome wheels, I'm prepared for the pushback!

I haven't taken a look at any OEM wheels, I was hoping for something a bit different but not too outrageous.

    I went semi old school.

OE 'spare' wheels, painted, aftermarket SS trim rings.

I went with stock 4runner take offs. Being an old fart, I never hitched up to the thousand dollar set of black wheels band wagon....

    Check out tirerack.com

As the others said, chrome isn't really en vogue so options will be more limited if you are set on that finish. But, I did see more than 20 different options on Tirerack when I just checked. Personally I think they're all ugly (not because they're chrome but because I don't like the wheel design itself) but there are options out there.

When chrome gets old it starts to peel and it’ll cause bead leaks.. I would definitely look at oem take offs.. I would steer clear of bright pvd finishes. Looks like chrome.. but the last set I had from tire rack (On a ford ranger) started to flake off off after 3 years. Tire rack swapped em out for some black ones.

I started to buy a set but
I ended up going with a used set of 16" OEM Tacoma alloys from Craigslist for $300

i had those on my 03 taco . Damn it looked good. Alot of people are running bronze and alot of them look really good. As everyone else has mentioned oem take offs are a good option. 4runner, sequia , not sure if tundra wheels will fit. If you get lucky you could get a set of trd pro wheels from a 3rd gen. Happy hunting

As other have said, the "anything but black wheel haters club: is well represented here. I'm not a member of that club though and agree with you on "something else." One problem you will run into is that both of the finishes you (and I) like are in pretty short supply these days because everybody seems to like black.

As to everyone that thinks black wheels are here to stay, I have one word; billet. Remember when everything had to be billet? Yea, now you can't give that stuff away.

    Welcome!
I've always felt the 4runner always gets the better wheel options

Stay away from chrome plated wheels. They will flake at the bead and start leaking air. for example lexus chrome plated wheels and dealer option chrome plated oem wheels, they're known to start flaking at the bead. this is why you'll see them sold for cheap 2nd hand.

polished aluminum is the way to go if u want the bling.

I bought OEM Chrome FJ 17in and in my opinion are classy. Chrome will be back as black will certainly fade out.1F92E159-13C4-4E5B-BA2D-C05207807E1F.jpg0838F4CB-1971-4BA2-9AD8-9B39F7DA183F.jpg
