I noticed a bit of bumping and thought just to look at the hubs and saw this. I’m not sure what could be causing what looks like the hub not to be seating/moving like this because I had it serviced at Toyota 3 days ago and they re torqued the lugs to spec. Any thoughts? the first picture is my passenger front side hub and the second is the drivers front side.

Pull the wheel, check and then clean the mating surfaces, then reinstall. It looks like thats a metal shaving thats crushed in between the hub and wheel.

depends on if it was R&R'd by a lubie.

one time, there was this funny lubie
he left every wheel loose, not just one. They all fell off within a mile.
man added spice to that normal day

kind of outdid the other lubies who would just leave brakes loose once a week, etc.

Doesn’t look like that to me. That ding is at the edge of the bevel on the wheel and is several millimeters from the actual mating surfaces between the disc rotor and the face of the wheel.

Please describe this better/differently. It isn’t very descriptive at all.

wheels either loose or it’s not

not hard to check. Grab your torque wrench.

tire rotation at Costco is probably $20.

whole bunch of other things can cause issues not related to wheels including TSBs.

They told me they torqued to spec and the other wheels all look much more flush unlike the one in question.

The ride just feels rougher but I don’t notice any wobbling in the wheel or pulling that I couldn’t attribute to the road or high wind. I did read from other thread that these wheels have had a fit issue on the Tacomas but I just think it’s odd that the other 3 sit well and only this one doesn’t.

I lifted it and tested to see if it was loose but it feels solid in there and I’ve tried using my torque wrench to see if there was more thread to catch but was barely able to get a turn if any at all on that particular wheel

    well
    Installation is clean mating surfaces
Put wheel on in air, centered, threading nuts until all hand tight
    Impact
    Lower
Torque wrench to spec star pattern

optional re torque check in 100mi

I’ve seen hubs threads stripped from new
And torque check doesn’t inspect for thread condition

Is this related to the two threads you started last week about your wheels? Are these the same wheels? What happened between last week and now?

I took the taco into Toyota for maintenance but also specifically asked them to take a look at the wheels just to have peace of mind from Toyota. They said it was good and allegedly retorqued the lugs to spec which made me feel fine moving forward. After a couple of days of driving I noticed my ride becoming increasingly rough that I felt more on the driver side which is why I ended up checking the hubs in the first place and compared the pictures from before I took it to Toyota and then yesterday and could tell the rims look like they are above and like the distance was widening from the hub.

Those wheels do not have a fit issue on Tacomas. You have the 4Runner Sema wheels. It’s the newer 4Runner Pro wheels that have the fit issue.

Only way to know for sure is check it yourself. ‘Properly torqued’ or not, if there is vibration or a visible difference - check it. Physics has a way of breaking things, regardless of what the dealer says.

Taking it to the dealer (or a different dealer) and having them ‘re-torque’ the wheel is not the answer, especially if there is something between the wheel and the hub, or there is a stripped thread.

Use the jack and the tools that came with the truck, ask a friend to help, or take it to someone who will show you what they are doing, but definitely check it for yourself.

OP: If you’re having concerns about fitment(from the photos provided, rims look flush/good) we will need more photos or info to assist you. Sounds like a unbalanced wheel/tire, if the wheel wasn’t “flush” it would have a wobble due to “free space” between wheel and hub faces.

Edit: This isn’t OPs first “my rims look funny” post in the last 2 weeks, take that as you will……

OP, you've started FOUR threads on the same general issue in under a week.
This is not helpful to the people who are trying to help you. This is not how diagnostics works.

no need to stop posting. Message a moderator and they can consolidate your threads. There are a lot of helpful people on here but it’s easier to follow one thread instead of four.

Dealership usually place tire pressure at 37 to 40 psi during whatever service done. Check tire pressure. I have mine at 30psi cold . Sweet cushy ride although not great on gas. At 35 psi, its brain jarring

    LS1 swap with nitros.
If possible, remove the problem wheel and swap it with another on the truck… see if the noise follows the questionable wheel or not. You can also check if anything looks off or if there is any wear on the hub and connection to the wheel, damage to studs, lug nuts, etc.

It could be a mismatch with one wheel for some reason, and while the lugs are torqued to 80ftlbs, the wheel may not be seated leaving some wiggle room.
