I have a 06 prerunner v6 DCSB automatic with 265/65/17s, Im gonna lift and put 33s on but im uncertain of my calculations for gearing so the tranny will shift correctly, I want the gearing to be as close to stock, it is my daily driver. according to my calculations, I should run a 5.10 ring and pinion, does this seem right?
    33 x 4.56 / 29.5 = 5.10

33 are the new tire size
    4.56 is stock gear ratio
    29.5 is stock tire size

any thread would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks

No, way to low gear. Actually, from the factory, your trucks speedometer is off, it reads higher than it should. With 33's and stock 3.73 gears your fine. I ran 285/70/17 BFG KM2's with no issues. With 33's your only concerns are weight of the tires and width of the tire. I assume you have OEM 17" wheels. With the backspacing on those you can't go more than about 11" wide Max with a 33" tire or it will rub on UCA. To run 285/70/17's I had to use FJ Trail Team Ed wheels that have the extra backspacing. With 5.10 gears you could run 37's ( I think 5.13 or 5.29 is closest they have) also, with gears that low, you have maybe 3/4 of one tooth of the ring and pinion touching. I put 5.13's on one of my toys and blew the rear end about every 18 months, lol!

Most autos would just run stock up to 33, though some change to 4:10 or 4:30. I'm considering 4:30.

Wait a minute, I just caught this. You have a 2006 TRD Sport. OEM tires are 30.5" give or take. 2006 TRD Sport (except 4cyl) have 3.73 gears.

I currently run 285-70-17s on fuel octanes. Auto with 373 gears. I feel like it has enough power for daily driving and anything else I use it for. Of course more would be better. I will say the only problem with this size is tire selection. I just put on falken wildpeaks in SL partially because everything else is load range E. I had toyo mud terrains and the weight difference was noticeably heavier. If I was to change the gearing I wouldn't go more than 4.10s and that would only be if I'm towing heavy. Hope that helps.

according to the tag on my rear end, its an LSD with 4.56 gears. Im only going on what the tag says.
my stock wheels are 29.5 inches tall (265 65 17s). I plan on going with maxtrac 4 inch spindle lift and
want to run 255 75 17s on some FJ wheels, don't know the exact wheel spec but they came off an 07 FJ.
I don't think ill need spacers in the front cause the tires are not very wide and the spindles move the wheels
out 3/4 in on each side. thanks for the info.

what I meant was the tag on the drivers door piller, not the tag on the rear

You can always double check to be sure. Jack up the rearend and rotate the tire one revolution and count the driveshaft rotations. Also verify which way the other tire rotates. If they rotate same way then you have a LSD, if opposite them open diff.

I don't know what you're looking at on the door jam, but I'm pretty sure you're interpreting it wrong.

Also, with MaxTrac spindle lift, those FJ wheels won't work. I have 4" MaxTrac spindle lift and 3" coil lift, I had to upgrade from FJ trail Team wheels to wheels with more offset. I'll find post. Gimme a sec. Lol, anyone need some OEM Toyota wheels and tires I got a set of OEM TRD Sport wheels and tires and a set a FJ Trail Team Ed wheels with KM2's for sale locally :)

    Code 04 = 4.56 gears
Not to hard to miss read it, just saying.

Just say in what the factory put on the label, maybe the factory got it wrong, I'm not trying to argue about he said and she said, just want to know what gear I should be running with 33s, no matter what the rear end is, thx
