I think 4.10's would bring it closest to stock, but for all that money spent on regearing, that is not that big of a difference.

OP if you do have the one and only Tacoma that came from the factory with 29" tires and a Toyota OEM mechanical LSD rear axle with 4.56 ratio , I'll swap with you. It would help us both out! Adjust for my 35's and allow you to drive on the interstate with 29" tires without having to run the engine at 5000RPM's. It's a win/win!

I've come to find out that it's actually an 8in with 3.73 gears, my stock tires are 265 70 17s and measure 29.5 inches, I wanna run 33s but don't wanna over rev the motor or struggle it, I want it to be as close to stock as possible

Are you currently running 33s? If not, just get them mounted and run them and see if you feel the need to regear first.

Stick with 3.73's with 33's. I don't use the dash speedometer, I have always used GPS. Triple redundant, one on NAV unit, one on Escort 9500ix and one on phone. At 70MPH on the speedometer, with 33's you will actually be going about 73-74MPH. With the tires from the factory, when driving your truck on the interstate, when your speedometer shows 70MPH you are actually traveling at approximately 68.5MPH.

You are worrying for nothing man. You can spend $1,600 on better mods.

    Just my opinion, I'm out.

Point well taken, I didn't realize it was such a small amount, 1600, that's some good modding money

You're gonna love them. It's good your'e doing research and getting your ducks in a row beforehand, but I don't think you'll really need to regear.

I'm usually very thorough about things, I'm computing the actual total cost of lift, tires, brake lines, CB spacers, drive line spacer, Dakar for the rear, ext. Shocks, u bolt flip kit, couple of alignments, and the such...
Gonna buy spindle 4in lift kit in two weeks when I get back from vaycay

Keep in mind, with spindle lift, using FJ wheels, you are looking at like 1.5" spacers in the front and like 3"+ spacers in the back to make them match. Consider different wheels.

ya, that's is not what I want to do, I could stand a small spacer, but 1.5 and 3in is a bit on the sketchy side for me.
what kind of backspacing should I look for?

Goto the MaxTrac site, they have all the specs. Or you can call them, very helpful peeps, I called about different wheels I was considering, originally I want to use my FJ wheels, but they said that wouldn't work.

If you wanna know for sure without opening up the diff (and this works on most cars) put it in neutral and jack up the rear. Twist drive shaft and see how many revolutions it takes to spin a tire 360 degrees. That's your ratios.

From the factory it was 3.73 in your truck. Going to 33s represents approximately a 10% increase in tire size so you'll want to gear down the diff(s) by the same 10% so that suggests 4.10 gears.

Now this doesn't account for the additional power required to move the extra unsprung weight (and whatever other mods you may add) so 4.30 should have the best "stock-ish" results
