Last week I noticed a ringing coming from my engine. Not the normal tick but sounds like a bell ringing, it follows RPM and not vehicle speed and only under acceleration. Doesn't really sound like detonation or valves either. Seems to be coming from the right side. Anybody else ever heard a noise like this before?

I don't know what it is, but I'm interested. I swear I can hear a faint higher pitched ringing from my engine bay sometimes.

I'm about to head to the dealer. Still under warranty for a few thousand miles. I'll post what they say.

Just like I figured. "bring it back when you can leave it all day" WTH. I would rather have teeth pulled than go to the dealer.

I'm dropping it off Thursday morning.
I cant hear anything at idle, just under acceleration, or when the engine is revved in park.

Dirty air filter? When my k&n gets pretty dirty... I get a kinda whistling/ringing sound as it has more trouble pulling air through.

No, brand new K&N. Just did a 30k service, but noticed it before that. Truck also gets Mobil 1 5-30 every 5k with either Purolator or Mobil 1 filters.

Well the dealer had it all day, verified the noise but could not pinpoint it. The service tech put about 20 miles on it with a chassis microphone in various places. They opened a case with "technical" and are waiting on an answer from them. They are hoping to have more info next week. On the plus side, it was detailed when I picked it up and they have my TSB springs on order.

    Bro,

If your valve train ends up being damaged - tensioners, vvt module, chain gear, and they say its oil pump related, I have a ton of info to share with you - to include case numbers I've opened with Toyota and the BBB.

The sound mine made first sounded like a wine. It later changed to what could be described as a ring, but was more like a bad pulley sound. At any rate, it wasnt a bad pulley.

    See my post...

After keeping my truck all day two different times and doing an "induction system cleaning", their answer was "try some premium in it and let us know what happens". I know damn well what detonation sounds like, and this isn't it. I tried it any way, and low and behold the sound is still there. They did get the spring TSB done without any BS at all though.

    THIS!

I hate toyota dealerships so much. Whether I'm looking for a new vehicle or getting service work done, I always feel like I'm being treated as if I'm inconveniencing them.

I will have to say, they treated me good. I was expecting the "you are bothering us" treatment but both service reps and the tech were very professional and polite, and both times the truck was cleaned inside and out when I picked it up.

This is a stretch maybe, if its based on rpm, could it be a resonance from the air intake ( i noticed u said right side)?? Culprits could be a dirt buildup , or maybe a mod done.

Sorry, brain fart when I wrote that, it's the left side of the engine.
