Duratracs are good tires for snow and such but no tire is good on ice really

Ouch-- I think 20 mph is a reasonable speed for that situation, especially if you had new duratracs. It's always the ice...

Glad to see you are ok. I flipped my old truck, it's never pleasant.

Sidebar, would it be possible to grab the spare tire tool? My brother was shorted 2 times and still doesn't have one.

Living in Canada and experiencing this weather for all my life I agree. But it is what it is. We have all had moments where we felt all was good then it wasnt. Most of the time we can recover but ice will kick your ass.

Great to hear that you and your pops are alright!! Sad to see your Taco go but it did its duty and protected you guys. Maybe you can take a small part from it and put it in your new Taco (shift knob or something). But again glad to hear yall are OK

Geez, I don't think the guy needs driving tips now!!
Anyway, I live on the eastern tip of North America and run 4 studded snow tires in the winter. For any of you that run all-seasons, just be aware that winter tires are not better just because of the tread. Winter tires are made of a softer rubber for better traction. All seasons don't cut it in winter. They harden quicker, and just don't grip like snows.

Appreciate all the positive replies! Great forum! I have definitely learned a lesson and try to avoid driving in those conditions at all cost. The deal on the spruce looks as if it is falling through. My dealer found 3 locally, but all have sold next to them? Maybe I will get lucky. I am now leaning toward a magnetic grey or black. I love white but my wife hates white vehicles for some odd reason! Lol I would also like Atrac and a locking diff this time around.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
Damn dude! Glad to hear you and your dad walked away! There's a reason these trucks earned Good ratings in almost every crash category.

As far as color goes, I would stick with Spruce or maybe Pyrite Mica but it's up to you of course. I have the MGM and it shows scratches and swirls just as bad, if not worse, than black. Unless you buff and polish every weekend. :D

Way to be in good spirits about the whole thing, you have seatbelts and insurance for a reason
