The man has been battling depression since he was in his teens. Depression is not just a gimmick... it really tears people up no matter how little you have it. His years of drug abuse and alcohol dependence are part of his depression... some use meds, some use those. Maybe you have never been depressed? Like, really depressed. You can have all the money in the world, everything going for you, but something still can bring you down. Believe me, depression isn't easy.

Dealt with depression for quite some time, but have to agree - there is more to life than just your own. Those kids will now live the rest of their lives without a father. Sad that a celeb and great musician is gone, but I can't respect the fact that he chose to be gone.

Depression sufferers often think that suicide will be better for the children and family members. It's part of the disease. The mind looks at suicide as a better situation for the victim AND those suffering with and around them. I know that's hard to imagine for those that haven't been on that side of the situation. RIP Chris...

    Thank you very much.

I picked up the guitar at age 13 and have been playing for 34 years now. As I mentioned, I have David Gilmour to thank for that. But as you mention growing up with them. I did the same. I was in my late teens through college and the four big names I mentioned earlier were my staples. There of course were others such as Stone Temple Pilots though I think we can all agree that Scott Weiland was going to happen at some point in time. I'm surprised it wasn't sooner.

That really sucks. I got to see them twice and as you can probably expect. They were great shows.

I understand what you are saying about suicide and leaving others behind to suffer. But you never know what is going on in someone's life. That certainly doesn't make it right but there are some demons that some can not overcome. If he was suffering from depression (I admit I do not know if he was) then that is not something to fuck around with. It is a living hell. Been there, done that. I just got lucky I overcame a lot of it.

I get that all the time since your last name doesn't appear after your first (it appears under) in the profile. Of course there really isn't an option for a last name but I put one there. If you look close at the profile you will see the last name. I'll let you look up where it came from ;)

Goddamn. His music was a staple of my childhood and even now. So much respect for him as a musician. It's so sad to see him gone now. Whatever the reason for him no longer being with us may be. I withhold all other comments regarding the possible choice of suicide, however.

Rock music is just about dead now. Cornell/Soundgarden was one of the last truly original rock bands. Instantly recognizable in just a few measures. And you only had to hear Audioslave once to figure out who the driving influence was in Soundgarden. Just a crushing loss.

Depression is a terrible disease. A disease without fundraisers or 5k's or colored ribbons. So many people suffering in plain sight, yet in complete isolation.

If you ever feel like taking your own life, please get help. Don't be afraid to talk about it. You are not alone.

Well he wouldn't be the first celebrity to die from this.

Right, because if a male "celebrity" hangs himself, he was probably just a pervert who died with his dick in his hand. Couldn't be a married father of three who suffered from chronic depression caused by an imbalance in brain chemistry. Nope, he was probably just jerking off.

Depression is a disease. But so is stupidity.

Touché. I'm mad, not at Chris for doing this but that we don't have a fckng solution for this. Depression and particularly suicide are still taboo topics in our society and that's a gd shame and only keeps the causes of this hidden away like a shit covered mushroom.

Well, it looks like Chris Cornell Fell on Black Days and used a Pretty Noose to commit something Like Suicide. It's almost like he was Hunted Down by a Black Hole Sun in a Room a Thousand Years Wide that was no better than a small Rusty Cage because it sucked him into the Superunknown.

The career of Chris Cornell will only be Outshined by the legacy he has left us. I might remember this upcoming 4th of July as The Day I Tried to Live without this iconic voice. Instead of deciding to Blow Up the Outside World, I might just paddle out into deep water, find My Wave, then strike a Jesus Christ Pose, and ask people to just Let Me Drown. Maybe after I sink down Into the Void, I will Live to Rise.

We should all Come Together and put Hands All Over his memorial and leave a Flower or some sort of foliage with Fresh Tendrils.

We all miss you Chris. You've already Been Away Too Long. :pout:

Take it easy, I wasn't agreeing nor was I making light of depression or suicide.

Him being from Seattle, I can only hope for a memorial right next to Jimi Hendrix in Greenwood Cemetery. Two legends, both gone well before their time.
