Definitely take it to get a second opinion. I thought I had a broken wheel stud one time because I noticed one of my lug nuts was bent in a weird direction and asked the dealership to take a look at it before I did anything. They told me they would and 2 hours later said that they thought someone had try to steal my wheels and broken the wheel stud and said it'd be like 750 to change it. Told them I'd do it myself since I already had the tools and when I went to fix it the lug not just popped off. It just wasn't threaded on properly and the dealership never even really looked. I ended up replacing the wheel stud and lug nut just to be safe and it cost me all of an hour and a half and less than 20 dollars in parts. I wouldn't trust the dealership.

Get a second opinion. The dealership offer you money for it? if so, given the short supply that would be shady.

I had a Dodge Dakota years ago and the tranny crapped out. Took it to the dealership and they said $4,000, I said it was a good thing I got the extended warranty! I would have it looked over by an independent tranny repair shop if it were me.

Fix the fuel. Drive the truck. The 'typical' ECU problems or even low fluid levels dont include a 3-4 slip that requires a full rebuild.

So either the diagnosis is wrong or you misunderstood the problem

Dont quite understand how you jump from a trans problem to a RIP on a 6 YO truck. Assuming it's in reasonable order otherwise.

I appreciate all the advice. I’ve looked around and found some good transmission service shops locally so I’ll definitely be taking it there first. The fuel issue will be fixed free of charge by the original dealership since they can document that it was caused by them. Again, thank you all for the advice. I think for now I’m going to get second/third opinions before I lament any further.

There’s wrecked trucks all over eBay. Just buy the trans from one of those, if your truck even needs one.

    I call bullshit.
If something is fucked, it wouldn't just be slipping between 3-4.
If you want a second opinion, find a shop that's a member of ATRA.

Recently a cardiologist told me I needed a stint... some $30,000+ worth.
I said I wanted a second opinion. Ok he said... you're ugly too.

Glad I went with the second opinion they told me to follow my own plan of
a complete diet change, take my damn cholesterol meds, and it's working out.

So yea, get a second / third estimate.

honored to have you along! I’ll post updates as soon as it’s back from the OG dealer for the fuel line replacement. Luckily that parts free.

This. They said the shudder and fuel leak are unrelated but that it will be comped by the other dealership.

I don't know what new transmissions cost these days, but 6k for a rebuild seems awfully high. I'll bet most of that is labor, but for that price I'd pass. Heck take it back to the first dealer that botched the fuel line and fix that. Ask them for a second opinion.

I would not go to the dealership for transmission work. They only remove and replace.
