On Jan 29th Nathan Woods who has been an icon in the off road motorcycle world for what feels like decades, passed away after a practice crash at Honolulu Hills MX park in Taft, California. Woods was getting ready for the season opener WORCS race, or World Off-Road Championship Series, in which he is the winningest rider and holds two titles. Nathan was the proud father of two boys and a loving husband to his wife.

This is a dangerous sport and we all know those who it has affected both positively and negatively. He knew the risks going in and was a true warrior in every sense of the word. Putting his life on the line to do what he loved and provide for his family day in and day out. I could only hope to be half the man he was. I could even hope to meet someone that was half the man Nathan was. Rest In Peace my brother I know you are somewhere now where the berms never get blown out, and the single track goes on on forever. You will always be missed and forever in our hearts.

From what I read in different one paragraph local reports it sounds like he got crossed up while landing a downhill table and went end over end. He was airlifted with internal injuries but did not make it. I will post links later to his training videos you should all buy them and help support a true legends legacy.

I can't believe the lack of coverage within the moto community over this. There is a small blip about it on RacerX and thats it. I'm so fed up with the sport just passing over the greats because they now ride a different genre of outdoors. He was one of the fastest dudes I ever saw rip a moto track, but because his names not Decoster, or Emig, Charmichael, or Bubba we don't hear anything about it. We see what Bubba's man friend does in his free time on tv and nothing on this. I'm sure much more will be released in the week as benefits and charities and such are started, but I guess I expected more of an initial reaction.

    thanks -Charlie

this clip of Nate riding single track will capture the respect of any true mx fan, and to hear fat lazy reporters like Steve Matthes say things along the lines of "WORCS is where MXers go when they can't hold the pace" is bullshit. It's where the real men that aren't scared of rocks and roots and don't want to sit around all day waiting for two twenty minute motos go. These guys hold the pace for two hours and three hours in the GNCC's. Call his show live and give him shit for it tomorrow night, PulpMxShow. Its on at 10 EST I think. at pulpmx.com just google it you'll find it. the number is on the website. Lets show some support for offroad.

I was talking to someone the other day when I heard about this. Neither of us could find much more than a 1" column about what happened. It's pretty sad that such a talented rider is gone.

aw man... that sucks... :( he was awesome! My family used to race mx until my cousin had a nasty accident at a race that put him in the Ronald McDonald house and had to relearn everything.

Nathan Woods will certainly be missed. RIP
