So sad to know he's gone. 20+ shows I went to. Was at the last show in LA and hoped it wasn't last ever but when he got up and started taking pics of the crowd after the encore, it was pretty obvious.
He inspired so many people to try playing the drums. If you've never heard one of his solos:

I saw RUSH for the first time on the Permanent Waves tour.......I have seen them 23 times and they have been my ALL TIME favorite band....I cannot express how sadly I feel.

Everyone should pick up a copy of his books.... "The Masked Rider", "Ghost Rider" after his wife passed on, and "Travelling Music"

I don't have too many heroes but growing up and following them Neal and RUSH for over 4 decades....I am deeply saddened.

His drumming was complex, yet clean and tight. A true pioneer and inspiration for many rock/prog drummers, myself included. RIP Canadian brother.

Yeah. Hate to see anyone pass on. But I don't give many celebrities more than a glance or two. But this one got my attention. So sad. I spent a lot of time watching him over the years and realizing what a terrible drummer I am.

Much like Zeppelin and Bonham, the band can't really exist anymore with out Neil. :(

I am 60 and had the first Rush album in 1974 when I was in the 10th grade. That was pre-Peart but you could see the difference he made in their music on the next album. My first favorite Rush song was In the End off Fly by Night.

Heard it yesterday on the way home. First heard Rush in my 10th grade (1976) sociology class. Teacher played 2112. Been hooked ever since. I loved how every album was distinctly Rush, but each one had a different sound or feel. Fly by Night, Caress of Steel (way under rated) , all the way thru Moving Pictures. After MP, their music didn't intrigue me as it once did. Even so, they are still my favorite group. Saw them in 1980 & 1981 or '82. My son asked me which was my favorite album. I said Fly by Night, Caress of Steel ,2112, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves and Moving Pictures are number 1. Depending on the mood, each one is my fave.

This seems like a fitting tribute. Godspeed, Neil and thank you.

So crazy. Grew up listening to Rush. Neil was the greatest drummer to ever live. He will never be replaced.

I’m still in disbelief. Neil has been very influential in my drumming. Like any other Rush fan, I’ve been to numerous shows but I’m particularly happy I went to the last one here in Los Angeles. When Neil came out from behind the drums to join Geddy and Alex at the end of the show it really was quite emotional. We knew they were serious, unlike other bands, this was truly their Farewell Tour.

Damn, this sucks. I can only imagine how Geddy and Alex are feeling right about now. Not to mention his wife and daughter. :(

    RIP - Neil.

RIP Neil, thanks for the MANY years of awesome music!Devastated beyond belief. Was secretly hoping they would squeak out one more album, but they were one of the very few bands that ended at the top of their game.Moving pictures was the very 1st CD I ever purchased when they came out.

    Fuck cancer indeed!
