    Aloha,

Sad to report that my 2002 Tacoma is no longer in service.

A visitor to our island plowed into my truck. My insurance ruled it a total loss.

It was a well maintained, super clean, sharp looking runner. 202K miles. Recently updated a number of things like the AC, windshield washer system, instrument cluster lights, and even installed a hitch.

23 years of reliable, trouble free service since I bought it brand new.

So, I'm out of the 1st gen forum.

But just got a 2018 double cab with only 56K miles. Hoping it will be as solid as the previous truck.

So, off to the 3rd gen forum I go.

Yes. I have the 22. My son drives it. He wanted my 02 since that was his vehicle when he turned 16. I told him I'd rather we get him a newer one for all the safety features. At the time, we couldn't find a reasonably priced used Tacoma. Prices were close to new and at times more depending on options or mods made to them. We ended up getting him a new one.

I didn't want a new one to replace the 02 for many reasons, e.g., cost, insurance, all the cool new accessories I'd have to add to it. LOL. So, I got a used one and am very happy with it.

I own a gen 1 and a gen 3 the gen 1 has been 260k worry free miles as far as the gen 3 I will let you know in five years or so. The gen 1 blows the gen 3 out of the water in build quality. The gen 3 came off the assembly line with more problems than the gen 1 has ever had.

I’m sorry you lost a good truck congrats on your 2018.

Very nice truck but totally different . More basic . The drive train was a sweetheart for sure. Gen 3 is nice also. It’s just chocked with emissions stuff

You will be back... the 3rd gens are nice but they are too "electronic". Clip a curb and the slip angle sensors will be off, the taction control will complain and on and on. If 4X4, the transfer case motor will strip the plastic gear and cost $$$ to fix.

    Stop lol
The 3 rd Gen is fine
Don’t abuse it . ( like any other vehicle) maintain if ( like any other vehicle) and you will be fine .
I have not had one single issue. I did the rear brake light recall ( had no leaks but just did it)
And the fuel pump recall ( again no issues ) other than that standard maintenance stuff that’s all that I did .

Yes... lol. Unfortunalty words and emojis dont really convey the tounge in cheek fun. Going from 1st gen to 3rd gen is like the Ford, Chevy, Mopar thing. I have multiple trucks of different manufactueres and I swear to god, they get jealous.

Sorry to hear this. I went from a first gen to a 3rd gen... Not going to lie, it takes some getting used to, but after 5 years of ownership I'm actually starting to get comfortable in the new rig and I'm not missing my first gen(as much)

Coming from an analog but trouble-free 1st gen brings me to a "modern" vehicle with the 3rd gen. :)

I've had the 3rd gen truck now for a couple of weeks and I like it.

The modern features are nice for sure.

In hauling stuff like green waste, I just noticed that the tie down hooks/anchors are much lower (low on the bed wall near the front and on the bed floor in the rear) as opposed to all 4 tie down anchors high on all corners of the bed with the 1st gen. I'll get used to it.
