Firstly, I wanted to use this opportunity to thank all that I interacted with here on the forum through the years. It's been a while since I've been on and I was sincerely thinking very recently that I should. I've just been so busy.

Anyhoo...I live in South Florida and we just dealt with Irma yesterday. Mid day, we heard a crashing boom and went out front to find this. We wouldn't have parked my truck there...and probably would have preferred the hubby's 03 Trailblazer be totaled this my truck, but the track they had been predicting was very different from what happened. This storm was crazy and did virtually nothing that anyone predicted it to. So the winds were more out of the west which did this.

I'm bummed because this truck made it 13 years with one dent and barely any door dings...and no accidents, only to come to this. I was anxious to call insurance because I couldn't remember if I still carried comprehensive or no...I thank God I did! They're coming to look at it in the next few days.

This brings me to the other reason I'm here...I wanted to see if there might be anyone interested in the cap...which is "old man tan"...really a light metallic gold (I forget the Toyota name for it). It took me forever to find one in Florida and that's why I got this one that didn't match...I had thought about painting it the same graphite gray I did the rims, but hadn't done it yet. I am going to pull it off and take some photos and create a sale post at that point...just wanted to see if there was any interest here, as I'll also be seeing if I can find a buyer locally.

Hoping those of you in the path of this thing fared better than I!

    -kAt.

Yeah, I'm hoping to get close to what it's truly worth. Does anyone know where they get their "replacement" values from? I know I've seen KBB saying it's worth about $9k private party...

The house is fine, thanks for asking! This is our only casualty that we've found thus far...and if that's all, we consider ourselves lucky!

If that's they only thing damaged than yes very lucky. From the picture it looks like a few inches the other way and we would be talking about something completely different

You might want to consider negotiating to keep the salvage truck. Many times the amount that the insurance company "charges" you, the reduction in the settlement is a pittance, and you can part it out for a lot more money, or perhaps even sell it all as one deal. Those of us up north salivate over rust free parts!! Food for thought!!

Yes, it's truly clean and rust-free. The mechanics that work on it are astounded when they get it on the lift.

And yes, I may think about paying them salvage value or whatever for it...we'll see. It just depends on whether I have the energy, space, time, etc. to deal with parting it out.

I do have a great suspension on the back also...I think it was Wheeler's Offroad five pack springs and Bilstein shocks.

Will have to see what insurance says/does...then will update.

Sorry to see that. It's heartbreaking. If you decide to part it out, I'll be buying. I got the same truck except it's an 02.

They will look at other sales in the area and based it on that. usually they go in the middle to higher end. I would not hold my breath on any custom parts.

Okay, waiting on the adjuster. We're currently running a generator and gas is scarce currently, so would love the have the full tank out of my truck. We're trying to syphon it with a janky little plastic/rubber syphon, but I'm not sure if it will work. Does anyone know if there's some sort of block in the tank filler tube that would prevent syphoning? We get it about 12-14" in and then it stops. Any assistance on this appreciated!

Here are some ideas. Sorry, I can't vouch for any of them nor do I know which one is going to be easiest and safest. It's a start! Hope You get your power on soon! My mom and two sisters all have homes in Florida in and around Englewood. We just heard that the properties all made it through OK. They were all up in here in Maine watching in horror.
