Holy hell. That’s quite the impact. Very impressed how the truck handled it.

Going to try and find another Tacoma in this market?

i...i...it's just like an open bottle of ice cold beer and nobody is around it. I just have to take a drink. In my defense, that other guy mentioned it first.
Question though... am I the only one who sees the physics here? Is it me that is wrong? If so, I will gladly forget it and think about something else. I only have about three brain cells left (however they still hit the gym daily and never skip leg day) and those little guys can use a break from thinking about stuff all the time.

I’m in total agreement with you on this issue. The comment was for the other post for sure.

This is moderate overlap on a 2017 Tacoma. They run these tests at 40 mph. There is a reason they limit these tests to 40 mph and not 50 or 60 or 70 mph. It's because people usually don't survive after about 43 mph if they hit something like a wall or bridge pier. This looks about like what this guy hit, however he also hit something that absorbed a lot of the crash energy, another vehicle. Hitting a wall and hitting another car are two different things.

I’m new to Tacoma as of last month and this is probably the 6th Tacoma to be super effed up and everyone walks away with minor bumps and scrapes. It breaks my heart to see these pics and hear the story every time but it is super comforting to know that the Tacoma saves its owners. Sorry for the loss but sounds like you got a positive perspective on it so good on ya.

Impact on a solid stationary object/barrier effectively doubles the speed. All the kinetic energy is absorbed by the impact vehicle.

Yes, when 2 vehicles impact, they both absorb the kinetic energy.

My wife had two bad accidents. One in our 2006 Limited 4R and another in 2015 Tacoma Sport. The 4R was at 65 MPH and the Tacoma was ~35 mph. Family walked away both times, and my wife is no longer allowed to own Toyota's....LOL! They are accident magnets for her.

Ah man that’s nuts but wouldn’t it be a good thing to continue to buy Toyotas if she keeps walking away from the accidents? Just an opinion but I’d keep buying em

any ideas? Or just bite the bullet on a brand new model?

Lol my wife too. She drove CRV's for 10 years. She decided to switch it up and get a Toyota Highlander. Within two months it was totaled... not her fault. We got a new Highlander. Within a year a guy t-boned her. Totaled. So, 14 months, two new Highlanders. I told her to switch back to CRV. Knock on wood it's been almost three years and nobody has hit her.

Well that is why I said "what are you going to do with the 50K dollar insurance check" from your 2017. It's crazy what people are getting for used Toyota's in general. Supply and demand I guess.

Do you have a second vehicle that can be driven for a while?

Glad you are ok, that is the most important thing after a accident like that, your truck can be replaced but your life can't. I have had a few close calls lately due to other drivers being pre-occupied with their cell phones while driving .. people just won't leave the phones be while driving

Maybe lease for a yr until the market settles down. At least you are still in a Tacoma in the interimn.

I didn't even mention her 1st gen. We were rear ended once and side swiped in a parking lot.

I am starting to wonder though...within 6 months of the Subaru she was side swiped again in a snow storm. Colorado drivers are the worst.

I'll keep saying it over and over... say what you want about the "shortcomings" of the 3rd gen... but these are clearly the safest compact/mid-sized Toyota trucks ever built. Glad you walked away! Looks like the impact was quite high!
