This is the reason I am not allowed back to one dealershit. Guy was quoted 2100 to replace the struts on his Prius and a 200 dollar sensor. The guy looked at me panicked when he heard the price. He asked me what he should do.... I told him to get his keys and run out of there. Service manager caught wind of it, had my truck pulled from the service bay and threw me out. I was there for spiral cable recall on my 2nd gen. This was on veterans day too.

I wouldn’t call it ripped off. You probably were given an estimate and you agreed to the price and allowed them to do the work.

So.. not a rip off. Just a mistake (of yours).

I hated going there anyway. Time before that I went in for the rear diff leaking. They kept the truck 3 days.... had to order gasket..... next day oh, we forgot to order diff oil.o_O
They gave me a free oil change for the delay.... I went back to get that and they forgot my oil cap. Called me and asked if I could come back under the ruse of they need info for the diff warranty they did a few weeks prior. I told them no I couldn't do it.... they hung up and 15 minutes later I got a call with the real story.... they asked if i could come back so they could put it ono_Oo_O I told them no.... you forgot to put it on, your mechanic can just drive over to me and put it on.... I dont want to drive it like that. 1/2 hour later the tech showed up and reinstalled...;)

I used to go to the dealership until I saw one of the techs and I was blown away, dude looked like he been on crack. Eyes all bugged out, teeth all rotten, I was like WTF, you worked on my truck? Never again. They just shit all over our rigs.

Just FYI, it’s a prerequisite to be insane to work on cars for a living. And If you get easily offended by bad words, don’t hang around a service department.

Lots of Dealer horror stories on here, - and elsewhere, but this probably happened at some point in your story.

I bought tools and had some willed to me but I am a tight sob! I won't pay anyone to work on my vehicles or equipment. I will learn one of two ways, first Murphy's law or by a manual. Read read read, it's the best way to prove what you need to solve.

OP agreed to the fees twice. :)

Once for the estimate and once for the payment.

Dealer: permission to fuck you sir?
OP: absolutely! Call me when you’re finished so I can pay you!

It’s easy for people with tools, space, and know-how to say “just do it yourself”. Simple installs and maintenance can go wrong if you are not certain of what you’re doing.

Still, I would ask for a very direct break down of parts/labor and compare to another independent shop. That price is high for the services you described.

Everyone on here will tell you you’re getting taken no matter how much you spend unless it’s $0.

Learn to do whatever you can on your own. Step outside of your comfort zone. Also, be honest with what you are capable of. Watch YouTube videos while you work if you have to. I’ve taken a years worth of automotive classes, but you won’t catch me rebuilding my diff.
