I didn’t know this, always thought Toyota was being cheap putting thin plastic caps on mine but never got around to replacing them with metal ones. Good thing I saw this, Thanks!

Make sure you get a cap on that. A plastic one. Dirt/salt will get in there and seize it up. Had that happen once. Luckily it didn't hurt my sensor but they had to stab my tire to deflate when it was time to replace them

    This!
We had a couple late 90s(maybe early 2000s?) Dodge Rams at work, that needed all TPMS sensors replaced, because the metal caps had corrosion at the threads, seizing the caps on. My 2008 Jeep Wrangler had this too. I think it has something to do with different metals causing corrosion.

Come on, come clean on how putting a sweet skull cap on your valve stem resulted in you somehow removing the valve stem and ruining the sensor in the process.

My theory is the OP was parked at Dairy Queen eating a Dreamsicle cone. All of a sudden a hottie pulled up next to him and complimented him on his ride. Instantly coming to his senses that the Walmart automotive section skull caps weren't cool he tried to remove them. Realizing they had seized to his valve stems, he panicked and just ripped them off with all his strength so she wouldn't see them. :anonymous:

Of course OP this all just in fun

Got a 1" hole saw, cut a hole next to the stem, then slip a new valve stem in the valve stem hole.

I've been using metal caps for many years. I also live in the snow belt with copious amounts of road slime. Never had a problem with the caps seizing on the valve stems.

But I do check my tire pressures at each fuel fill along with the engine oil check as regular maintenance. Tire pressures move around depending on the ambient temperature.

I honestly don’t know I hope it wasn’t the shop screwing me over, I got it towed, I didn’t check the tire sensor on the dash in power mode to see if it was not listing the pressure, dude just put it up on the tow truck

but that stupid cap (inside of it, cap came off left some metal
Shit covering the air hole) somehow melted to the valve cap, I couldn’t get it off for the life of me .. figured I’d put a vise grip on it lol and yank .. ripped the metal piece that melted off and that little valve core out, somehow that fucked up the TPMS, or the shop shafting me?

If you broke the valve stem off to the point that you ripped the valve core out, sounds like destroyed the sensor since it is all one piece. I'm guessing that blast of air in your face probably was met with a sinking feeling in your chest. Spare tire probably would have been cheaper than a tow, but at least you got it sorted out.
