Hello TW, need your help again.

Went wheeling with my group, going there was fantastic, going back was an absolute nightmare. I thought I was gonna stay the night in the woods, not a good feeling.

Anyways, I managed to wrap a kinetic rope around my rear axle and ripped what I understand is an ABS/wheel speed sensor wire? Can someone confirm that? I took a look underneath today to see where I need to unplug the harness but couldn’t really see. I’ve got no ABS brakes, and my brakes feel a bit different. The truck still stops fine though.

Sucks I have to work right now, otherwise i would be crawling under my truck right now. I tried using the car scanner app but no codes, I’ll need to hook up tech steam when I get home.

Does anyone have experience or tips replacing this harness? And is it actually ABS/wheel speed sensor? Thanks guys.

    Some pics for attention:

I've never had to touch that but if there some slack you can probably just repin the wire and reuse the plug. Would be much easier than replacing the entire harness. If not enough slack (or you don't wanna crimp) they also sell those connectors with wire on them already or you could just get the connector as a pigtail and solder it on.

I don't know these are the proper connectors but should be something like this. Don't want to link you to the wrong parts... so this is just more of an idea of what it may look like.

Thanks for the advice, that might not be a bad idea. I’ll need to have a better look when I get home today.

Although I found a harness for a 100$ at the dealer. Hmm

Same dash lights went off when I broke my rear left sensor. From picture it looks like the wires just pulled out or broke from connector. Can you unplug the connector and maybe splice it back in?

If you've never done it before those terminals are really easy to crimp and just slide into the housing once you remove the old ones. It's something useful to learn and the connectors are really cheap.

And worst case if you mess it up you just replace the entire harness for the 100 bucks. Only thing you can you really do wrong is flip the wires. Hopefully when you pull the old connectors out there still some of wire cover on there so you can easily see what color goes where.

I’m going to pick up my truck now, so I’ll see if I can unplug it and splice it back in.

I’ve called a few places and seems like the harness its out of stock, of course it is…

So I took apart the plug and found some hope inside, 5/16” to be exact. Do you guys think it’s a good idea to try to splice them together? Or try to rewire the plug somehow, is it even possible?

I tried to chase to where the harness unplugs but it’s somewhere way up under the bed, and looks like they are at least 200$, not 100$.

Yeah a bit of a bummer but at least I know I can fix it without probably buying a new harness.

It was awesome going there man, really cool trail. The way back was an absolute hell. It was pouring all day and 2C, the snow was super slippery and everyone was getting stuck. I was the last guy so I had the worst of it, 3-4 foot ruts with water in them. I honestly don’t know how my truck is in 2 pieces, but all I can say is 3rd gens are fucking tough. I lost a bead twice cuz my front jumped trying to make it over those ruts… was at 18-20 psi.

Alignment is fine, just few nice dents in skid plate, and some scratches on frame. Drove home on hwy 120-130, super smooth. Very tough trucks. Not doing this shit in January or February ever again.

Could just try to sodder off the short lead on the connecter, and see if it works. If not just repin the connector like said above! Probably blew a fuse as well, happened to me the other day. Pinched abs wire that I couldnt find and thought I had bigger issues

So my neighbour and I took apart the plug and we will re pin the connector, doesn’t look hard at all actually.

Thanks everyone for responses and I’ll update if our repair works.

Late to the party, but I soldered mine together after breaking the wires. Been fine for years.

    Nice!

Just curious, how did you manage to break the wire? It’s pretty tucked in in there.

Did you blow a fuse as well?

That's a good idea and it should work. You may also need to clear the associated ABS codes once the repair has been completed.

FWIW My Silverado Tow Rig is lifted and for a time the extension harness for my ABS sensors on that truck was too short so if I crossed-up the front end or let one wheel droop, it would sever the wire for one of the front ABS sensors. Got to the point that I started (and still do) carry a spare sensor in the truck. Both times it's happened I've also needed to clear the code to get rid of the ABS light.

My bulldog chased a squirrel up into my wheel well about a year ago. She tore the abs wire loose and I just soldered it and used shrink tube. No issues. That being said I did have a little bit more wire than you do. Good luck! Can't hurt to try. If it doesn't work you can still get the new harness.

Pretty sure it was broke from the "j" hook used to recover it. I bought the truck wrecked and the wire was cut before I got it.

    No blown fuse.

Just noticed you have a 1st gen, might be a bit different from my truck. I’ll make sure to check the fuse though.
