I had a similar problem, but didn't rip off the studs. Both nuts came off the studs easily & went back on the same way. When I went to connect the electrical plug, it was fastened on the top of the transmission & there was no way to see it to unplug the old one & plug in the new one. So after figuring out that you can flip the old sensor over the transmission & pull the wire so that you can see the plug to disconnect, I like a fool tried to remove the new O2 sensor to connect it that way. One nut came off easily again, but the other one refused to come off more than 2/3 & then would not retighten all the way down. The temp solution was to reinstall the new O2 sensor with one bolt & cut a spacer to fit between the balky nut & the sensor flange. This allowed me to mechanically tighten down the flange leak free & call it a day. The old O2 sensor is plugged in & tie wired to the frame & the new sensor has the leads & plug sealed in a plastic bag & zip tied to a cable. My heart sent me to the emergency room the next morning, so the truck sits there as left.

    I bought m8 x 1.25 studs from Advance Auto.
I have also bought bolts and cut the heads off to use for studs.
