It will be all fun and games until you have to winch yourself out of something. Distance just went from 300 miles to 12 miles in less than 10 minutes and last I checked most off road areas don't have EV chargers...

I get how it could pull this capacity... but how the hell could it stop 11k lbs? The physics don't pan out for me on that figure.

Everyone runs solar panels on their roofs these days so electric is perfect cuz now you can drive forever! You might just have to sit and recharge for a week or two. and hopefully its a nice sunny day..

Not discussed in the OP's article, I suspect that the e-truck's brakes are actually regenerative brake systems. In a conventional car, brake pads clamp onto a metal disc, with friction converting the kinetic energy of a speeding car into wasted heat. But when electric cars slow down, the electric motor runs as a generator, recovering some of that previously wasted energy to top up the battery. Depending on how much regeneration the software engineers allow when designing the car, the force can be powerful enough to slow the car most of the way to zero, meaning drivers only need to use the brake pedal to come to a full stop.

It's not the brake fade that would scare me. It's the trying to stop 11,000 lbs with a 5,886 lb vehicle. Kinetic friction can only do so much. I'm sure these numbers will all be vetted out, but I'd be surprised if that 11,000 lbs wasn't greatly reduced.

    What a fun truck!
Why can't you just put brakes on your trailer?

Also, as for off road capabilities, another article I read said that this thing has 200 hp delivered to each wheel via 4 separate motors. Independent Motors for each wheel?! That should allow for some serious re-inventing of a crawl control system.

    Meh...

    My concerns:

    1. Those headlights are absolutely terrible. They look like something we'd see in a TRON movie, not something I'd want to see in my driveway.
    2. Suspension specifics? Can the suspension be easily modified to meet tougher off-road and overlanding requirements?
    3. Any solar charging solutions for overlanding?
    4. How does towing affect the battery life (range)?
    5. Actual MSRPs for each trim package, not this "starting at" nonsense.
    6. Any longer bed options? The tiny 4.5 foot bed pictured in the article is pretty ridiculous/useless. Hell, even the 5 ft bed on the Taco is borderline useless for some of us.

Nothing can beat the acceleration of an electric motor. 0-60 in 3 seconds, nice. But, even after release not only will be it be unattainable for most of us it will also have issues. With new technology comes new problems that can take years to work out.

This is a good start for electric pickup offerings. I only saw the range listed for the larger capacity batter, and only saw pricing for the smaller battery. What is the price for 400 miles of range, and what is the range with the $61k price tag?

This truck has some pretty nice features that any competitor could implement:
    - The cross bars that go from the bed to the roof would have been awesome on the Tacoma.
    - The rear pass-through storage that goes under the rear seats would have been great - anyone with a car seat in the back knows what I'm talking about.

They do need to find an alternative to that tire mounting location.

How are they achieving the 14" ground clearance? What tires are they putting on here, and how much do they cost? I wouldn't want something that has a $500 tire.

    Hopefully this helps spark competition.
