Absolutely…I’m much more interested in the battery sustainability, especially the recyclability.

Saw this article awhile back, while not focused on sustainability, does have some interesting ideas on battery tech.

Here is decent map to watch pollution. China is by far the worst, Stateside we do fairly well, however we just moved our manufacturing overseas to China where the regs aren’t as tough. So are we really doing better, or just moving it out of sight out of mind?

Because it locks into the socket when you lock your car. EV manufacturers thought of this a lot of years ago.

Also, the charge stations supply the cord and the plug and the power. People generally leave their cords at home.

Guys, these things have been out a long time. Come visit California! I'll share my beer and tie you up with my ropes and show you the sweet, sweet crags of the Sierra and also let you experience an EV charge stations and crazy million dollar shacks that will make you laugh as you drive your 15mpg trucks back over the Rockies or whatever.

Park in the garage…not living in a sketchy neighborhood is helps too. :)

Of course the dumbass thieves may try and cut the cord while it is hot, that would be highly entertaining! Why it is good to set up video cameras, post it on YouTube, and who knows may get back the money spent on the vehicle if the vid goes viral!

No need to set up video cameras, the Teslas have Sentry Mode and the Rivian has Sasquatch Mode (or whatever they officially name it).

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Yup, I thought so too. Add a good set of off road tires and it would be even better.

This is also version “one” of a new idea, an electric off roader. Expect it and future competition to the Rivian to improve on shortcomings in the first iteration.

Now not many would buy this for off roading at this early stage, but if gas guzzlers eventually become a thing of the past, then expect market competition to start to meet the needs of our segment.

Me, I am on my 4th 4x4 in the past 35 years, all bought strictly for remote solo off road trips. About 500 trips and counting in some of the most remote locations in BC.

I have no bias for or against gas or electric. I just need something I can afford and rely on to get me in and out safely. I don’t need something else at this stage of my life, the Taco works fine, but if later this was all that was available, but at a lower price I would have few complaints.

The issues of charge capacity and charge stations will work itself out over time. Same with vehicle upgrades.

Not like there were a ton of gas stations when the Model T hit the market. Mankind generally adapts despite the caterwauling and hand wringing along the way. Survival of the fittest, and fuel driven vehicles may in the end prove to be dinosaurs. Who cares? Just get me into the mountains far away from all the crying and complainers and pavement princesses, either on fuel or EV, whatever is available.

I drive a Tesla, I will be trading it in for a Lightning if they prove reliable after the first model year is out.

You know what I love about little honey badgers like you… the worlds you spin up in your heads, out of your own pre-conceptions and inferences… more telling than any set of ‘facts’ you might cobble together.

Funnier, however, is that you don’t even realize that your psychotic proselytizing only further isolates you from rationality.

Try not to rupture your brain pan cooking up your next fantasy….

I like those bed bars, they can move to the roof and be a roof rack also.

Oh, absolutely. I wonder if they even aired it down. I just find Doug's mannerisms and commentary to be very funny.

I speculate based on his mannerisms that he may be on the Autism Spectrum. Just been dealing with people that act like him for a few decades and seen the same mannerisms. Makes me appreciate him that much more.

Nothing is really green, “being green” is just marketing to sell more stuff. We aren’t going to save the planet, the planet has been through worse than humans, there have been maybe 5 mass extinctions, and we are in the middle of the 6th mainly caused by us. To think that electric vehicles are going to make a difference is a bit naive. If you go back through history, even long before it was even recorded, humans are horrible for the environment, even in prehistoric times, there is fossil evidence that we destroy whole ecosystems, for en example: when Man first migrated to the Australian Continent there was megafauna, shortly afterwards it disappeared. It isn’t oil, or lithium destroying the planet, it is Us.

We are going the way of the dinosaurs except we are doing ourselves in much faster.

“The planet will be fine, the people however are fucked…” -GC

That said I do like the tech of EVs, love watching the evolution of machines. It is kinda funny reading people arguing over power sources of machines that transport us. It is like people arguing over which shit smells better, not unlike which politician is “better”. Guess it boils down to the lesser of two evils.

One of my favorite series. He touches on pollution, electric vehicles, being green and this was some years ago.

I agree, this change to EV will slow human extinction not stop it. I remember during the height of covid when the video in china and India the air was crystal clear since they were locked down and practically zero cars on the road. That is a definitive example of ICE and their effect on the air we breath.

It was interesting to watch the real time pollution effects during the lock down. Most of Asia went into the green, and now look at it.

    https://aqicn.org/map/world/

EVs are far from perfect, but at least hopefully it will clean the air up. We are constantly evolving and may one day evolve one day into some sort of non-organic being, that is if we don’t go extinct in the process.

    Anyways back to the Rivian.

Have been watching some videos on it, in every one it seems to do quite well. Though in this video believe the Landcruiser had a poor driver, as at the end *spoiler alert* the unlocked Tacoma makes short work of the hill.
