    “TESLA DRIVERS ARE ASSHATS”

“I bought my ’73 Super Beetle right around 2001. It was a fun little car, but that’s not what this story is about. What this story is about, then, is my uncle Ron, who I inherited the VW “bug” from (see what I did there?).

See, Ron told me that VW created the Super Beetle – which is a Type I with MacPherson struts in place of the torsion-bar front suspension – as a response to Ralph Nader’s anti-car classic, Unsafe at Any Speed, which blamed the rear-engine handling dynamics of the Corvair for a number of traffic fatalities. “With that suspension on it,” said Ron, “it’s impossible to flip that car.”

    Is it, now?

From that moment on, the ’73 Super was driven like it was rented, then stolen, then sold with a fake VIN, then rented, then stolen again. That car lived so much of its life sideways, it had more lovebugs on the doors than it did the windshield – and, I assure you, you can flip a Super Beetle.

I was younger then, though – not yet a father and definitely a bit of an asshole (more than now, yes). I took “you can’t flip that car” as a challenge back in those days, in the same way that I still take “all you can eat” as a challenge. Now, imagine there’s a whole lot of guys like me. Overgrown children with no regard for the safety of the people around them, willing to endanger themselves and others for a little bit of automotive thrill, and give them a 10-second car.

Next, tell them that 10-second car is safe. Like, OMG it’s SO safe, you guys. It’s so safe that it’s the safest car ever built. Ever!

Sprinkle in a dash of self-righteous environmentalism and you have a recipe for disaster.

I don’t think the cars are the problem, guys. If they were, I imagine that stratospheric stock price I mentioned earlier would be getting gobbled up by payouts in wrongful death claims. No, the problem here isn’t a loose nut, it’s the nut behind the wheel.”

    It’s true lol

Any time I see an audi, bmw or “tuned” turbo shit box … I make peace with my maker , call my kids , wife, and girlfriend tell them I love them , then proceeded to destroy the aforementioned vehicles. Safe ? No. Dumb? Absolutely. But I’m here for a good time not a long time .

Have a great day thread troll

When even the major oil companies accept the science on human caused climate change , maybe its time for the science deniers to reluctantly book a ticket on the reality train

It’s ok, he conflated ‘climate change’ and ‘science denial’ in response to a post referencing sourced news articles about battery recycling, so….

This, exactly. The mfgs realize that they can sell a ton of short beds to people who would really be better off in an SUV but want that truck persona. But these vehicles are still mostly people haulers and grocery getters. Hey, my long bed Sport AC is mostly a grocery getter, too. But I use it for my kayak and we have a farm so there are times when we really need the long bed to carry lumber, tools, dirt, gravel, etc. And the LB also comes in super handy for road trips when we need to carry lots of gear. I mean ours is literally filled to the brim when we travel. The beds on our Tacomas are shallow so they just don't hold much so the SBs seem to me to be virtually useless. IOW they are merely a style element or a place to toss your cooler. With these market dynamics it is no surprise that Rivian comes out with a SB... or my Toyota dealer stocks mainly SBs, and the Nissan dealer's first 2 new Frontiers on the lot are DCSBs. I suspect many folks who buy these will one day be trying to carry a bigger load and wonder what they were thinking. Sad.

I drove a prototype Hummer around 2008 that had a 4 cyl. generator under the hood with all-electric drives. It even had a plug on the side for job site use

Short beds can do fine, a hitch extender allows for long loads and you can even stop off for supplies after a day of bike riding on the trails. Its not like the long bed Tacoma is much different than the short bed anyways. That said l would have preferred a longer bed but the only way l could get a Manual transmission was a short bed so no big deal.

I had to wait to find an ACLB, dealer tried to push me into a DCSB, which I could of made work since my construction days are long over (thank gawd!) do plan on getting a Hiatus Camper for it, the long bed just works a tad better for that, plus it swallows MX/camping gear just a touch better.

Do have a 5X8 trailer for those extra large mulch runs, lol! so it is like having a full-size truck without having to own a full-size truck. That trailer is sure a hell of a lot easier to load than into a truck bed, especially how high the full-sizes have become.

We use our short bed DBLC cab for our business. If no one is in the back seats , they fold flat and now you have a very sizable enclosed area to put a lot of supplies/containers/tools.

If you have a roof rack, you can add more BS to the roof of the DBLC cab.

I would actually have the DBLC preferred for work truck over regular X-cab 6foot bed taco. I mean like you said you can simply just have things extent out over the tail gate.

What is a “short bed DBLC cab”? My understanding is you have a DCSB, dual cab short bed, and a DCLB, dual cab long bed, in the dual cab configurations.
