This statement is absolutely true objectively.

But when you consider the alternatives: bmw m3, audi s3, or even the cheap route , a turbo Subaru , then a Tesla model 3 dual motor or performance is the most intelligent decision you could ever make in your life. The acceleration never gets boring . Also unlike my gas friends cars who usually need to do tune updates to the ECU ,turbos upgrades ,the clutch once in a while because they blew it burning out, break pads and having to deal with California smog once it’s due(lol they are so screwed) then tesla is the only answer. No doubt. The only situation where it’s not much better is when you compare it to say a Porsche or so. Because the car is about 4000 pounds it’s not going to break or handle like that at all. Even my model three performance is just a little Softer on the brake pedal and handling versus something like a M3 competition or so. A tinny bit. But compared to a Porsche , big difference . You can always run big brake kits an aftermarket coil overs but you can never get around that 4000 pound weight ( not too bad vs other sedans still)

Then again : I get to use carpool lanes, Basic bitch auto pilot is actually not that bad, all the gimmicky games in the infotainment center are fun, Dog mode is nice, getting the car defroster to heat up instantly in winter is sweet, creeping around silently is hilarious, douche green “consciousness”, accelerating very aggressively without attracting police attention due to no exhaust, no power loss at very high elevations , car insurance claims probably easier with all the cameras recording at all times even if the car is parked, and using occasional free chargers and EV preferred parking spots at like the zoo, hotels , and shopping centers. Idk do it !

Climate change is real but it doesn't mean we have to make crazy leaps and bounds to drastically change the infrastructure of our society. Some change is needed, agreed, and I welcome all ideas to the table. This being said, gas and diesel powered vehicles will never go away. Many companies and universities, including mine, have developed ways that carbon from the atmosphere can be re-synthesized into useable gasoline without the need for drilling for more oil or starting more wars in the middle east to steal it. This process will create a synthetic carbon cycle controlled by human processes. No new carbon will be released into the atmosphere, and overall atmospheric CO2 levels will gradually decline. Cradle to cradle, as they say.

To any geezers who are mad that the past is behind us and that we must now clean up the mess we've made, all I can say is that your time has come and gone, unless you are willing to adapt and embrace the course of humanity. When you look at the big picture, it's really amazing- humanity has developed amazing technologies which have ended up adversely destroying the planet. We've also developed so far as to realize our power and where our actions are leading us. We refuse to stop there; our trajectory of development does not plateau after we've created a world of technology that serves our needs, especially when it's working against us in such a big way as climate disruption. Our technological advancement continues, until we have achieved a system of optimized efficiency and symbiosis. I'm grateful for the technologies that got us into this mess and the people who created them, because they stand as foundations and inspiration for advancing technologies into the next paradigm. I think electric vehicles will prove optimal for some populations, but maybe not others. That is completely okay, but we must amend the ramifications by other means such as synthetic carbon cycling, because I do agree that EV's can be very gimmick-y.

Just wait until they can figure out nuclear fusion reactors (fusion, not fission) small enough to fit inside a passenger vehicle... never charge or fuel your car again! Also never pay for energy again in any way shape or form. You could travel off road for 10,000 miles without worrying about the range of your vehicle! If this becomes a (financially feasible) reality within my lifetime, catch me retrofitting my first gen taco drivetrain stat

just did a lap in a parking lot, but yes it was fun. Lots of torque. Lots of power. No noise except the tires on the pavement.

I’m not sure what you’re saying here. Is “change” the verb?

Personally, I don't think the "all-electric vehicles by 20--" will work out. Material costs, build costs, repair costs, the miles per charged batteries, and the power source is going to need to be greatly improved. If companies can't lower the MSRPs of some of these vehicles, I don't think most people will be able to afford them, and compared to gas vehicles, they aren't more eco-friendly as people think.

The only climate change I have seen is the 4 seasons. For a long time the climate change folka have been making claims the north pole will be gone in 10 years or the world will end. This has been said so many times and the north pole is still there. They are just as bad as the religious folks who go around saying it.

Just because you don't see it means it isn't happening? It's not an overnight occurrence, it's a slow motion set of events.

    Turn that frown upside down…

we’ll have this pesky enviro thing worked out in a couple years.

    https://grist.org/sponsored/reinventing-coal-country-reclaiming-americas-abandoned-mine-lands/amp/

“Today, abandoned mine lands exist throughout the U.S.: 5.5 million people live within a mile of one. And in the 40-plus years since the government imposed regulations and taxes to help with cleanup, only a fraction of those abandoned mines have been reclaimed. “We’ve only taken care of about 27% of the AMLs,” says Eric Dixon, a researcher with the Ohio River Valley Institute, a non-profit think tank focused on economic development and clean energy. “And we’re still finding new ones, so the total number keeps growing.” He estimates that more than 850,000 acres of abandoned mine land still need to be reclaimed.

The cost to reclaim these abandoned mines is around $11 billion, according to the Office of Surface Mining Reclamation and Enforcement. But in a recent report, Dixon estimated that the total funding currently needed to clean up and reclaim the abandoned mines throughout the United States is in the neighborhood of $20.9 billion.

The harm caused by abandoned mine lands is concentrated in Appalachia. Some 84% of the damage lies in just seven states: Ohio, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Alabama, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. The damage from abandoned mines tends to be located in communities already struggling economically. And the environmental, health, and safety costs of these lands are accompanied by a profound human cost. The move away from coal and other fossil fuels — while both essential and inevitable — has led to decades of job losses, threatening the survival of small townships across the United States. Statistics from the U.S. Energy Information Administration show that close to 50,000 coal mining jobs have disappeared since 2011.”
