I cannot overstate how disappointed I am in my RLD topper. It's been almost this bad for the past 3 years (started right after I got it) and I just kept putting off posting this here.

Clearly not designed for a Montana winter. I put it on in spring of 2021. 4 years in and I cannot believe the rust and flaky paint. I'm not a contractor or anything, and I haven't abused it. I am very gentle and easy on my truck, and it's happening in odd places, like the front driver's side corner (in addition to the rear corners where one might expect more wear).

Thus the side doors are completely un-useable for about half the year here because the latches catch water and snow and freeze shut constantly. I keep a spray bottle of alcohol-based lock de-icer to melt them when I really need to get in from the side, but it's still a pain. I also keep a butterknife handy for prying them open after using the de-icer.

    What a piece of crap.

Aside from regretting the purchase... I don't even know how to deal with the paint issues. I'm not at all a paint guy. I guess on the flakiest parts I could strip and sand a patch and maybe get some touch-up paint from Toyota? Not sure about the spots around the back gate window.

Anyway, if you're into these style toppers and you live in snow country, maybe check out RSI or something.
