Road and air noise coming in through pressure relief vents behind rear seats

How hard was it to remove the plastic panels? I’m thinking about doing this to my 2020 OR. The road noise is quite loud and has been from the very beginning. I’m only at 5K and need to do something about it

 

I've been living with the road noise - but I'm thinking the noise may / also be coming form the rear access cab doors (in my case) and the under rear seat storage spaces. Did anyone try to add sound deadening to these areas? Thought I'd try the under rear A Cab seat storage area first ??

 

It’s an easy job, takes more time to remove the seats than the panel.

I thought you people were out of your mind. I think the 2020 Tacoma Sport dbl cab is very quiet, at least I did, until I drove it with the back seat folded down. I kept hitting the buttons to make sure the windows were up, it makes quite a racket. Seat up quiet as a mouse

 

trying to talk myself into just blocking the vents and glad someone has the sense to talk me out of it

 

Have you had any pressure problems. That is since you put foam over the vents it’s harder to close doors when windows are closed

 

No issues what so ever! I’m really enjoying the quietness! I ended up buying two more acoustic pyramid-shaped foam squares to put under the rear seats. I popped out the plastic storage box and laid the foam down, then put the storage box back in. I placed the form in with the pyramids facing outwards to fit between all the nooks and crannies of the sheet metal. It’s dead silent now

 

Putting vent on recirculate all but stops the noise too.

 

Bought one of these and folded to fit the back Width/length of the rear seats back wall (access cab). Going to use the blanket loops to attach/hang rope loops around the head rests. It's just semi hanging there now - but seems to have helped. Also will have a blanket in emergencies and for cargo protection f needed ...

Just discovered the easiest fix in the world.

Yes, Does help ... to a point.

 

If you crack your window it goes away too.

 

But then you have a new noise…

 

I’m actually impressed with how quite the truck is inside. Our 2009 was very noisy this 2021 is much better. Is it luxury car quite, no, but it’s a truck.

 

Now that the snow has thawed and temps were above freezing for the weekend I had time for a much needed truck project.
I completely covered the rear with 36 sq ft of 80mil Kilmat sound deadening to kill some of the road noise produced by removing my rear seats.
Also rebuilt the rear seat delete panel for the dogs allowing for better storage underneath and giving the dogs about 8-10” more standing/laying room. Having the panel lifted also allows the dogs to see out the window better making them less car sick and I don’t have to roll the window down as far for them to stick their heads out.
The panels are 3/4” Birch coated in paint and spray on bed liner.
On top of the panel there is a easily washable anti-fatigue mat to give the pups some paw traction when things get crazy.
I also removed the rear window control switches in the rear doors completely to stop the dogs from rolling the window down whenever they feel like it. Yes, they’re smart enough to do that...

I can. You need some kind of cancelling noise on the inside going out of these vents to meet the noise and cancel it. Simple audiometrics actually. On Amazon music you can download a road noise track of your exact year/make/model, then play it at the required volume level. Road noise cancelled.
