Road Trip to Clear My Head

Long story short.. My little brother passed away unexpected and it's been tough dealing with things. In the past the open road has been a way to "get back on track" the best I can. So I am going to plan a road trip in the early spring. I thought about asking to see if any of you have any ideas on must see or anything like that???



I alive in southern NH and planning on a 10-12hr max one way... Give or take a little if it's awesome.

Long weekend - Foot hits the pedal Thursday night to head out and Monday/Tuesday to head home.

Thoughts?

Sorry about your brother! Losing someone close is hard, I know...
Could you make it to Central Pa. in that time frame? If so, the Pa. Railroad museum is pretty cool, along with the Strasburg railroad.

 

Its a tad further than 12hrs, but drive your self down to Asheville NC. Get tucked away in the mountains, and enjoy downtown asheville when you feel like being around people

The Smokys was on my list... Now I have a few more never been to any so far... I heard of a cool spot down in Virgina (or west) but I can remember the name?.

Boone, NC would be my pick.

 

So many cool things to do there. Trout fishing, good camping places, ski or snowboard, mining for gyms, checkout the mast general store, etc. There are so many relaxing things to do. Not to mention its a beautiful drive!

I plan on finding a cabin with some nice views doing some auto tours of the smokys & doing some hiking but any and all suggestions would be welcomed. I have never been!

 

Depending on where you are staying check out Linville Gorge and the surrounding areas for hiking. Loads of info and maps to be found on the web as well as area stores.

Cade's Cove in the Smokies. Can't sleep there (I don't think), but awesome to spend hiking / wandering time. EASY to spend 2-3 days.

Use VRBO.com to find lodging IF you want something more than a motel. And there are some cheap old style motels in Townsend.

Harpers Ferry in W VA/VA/Maryland corner if you are a history buff. Remarkable place.

Speaking of history, if you like city life, you could go N to Old Quebec city. The old walled city portion is very walkable, European looking, and historically rich.
