New Member posting for the first time.

I bought a Used 2020 Cement Tacoma TRD Off Road in November with 20,000 miles
This is my first Tacoma, I've had several TJ Jeeps and a 03 Tundra in the past.

When I drive my tacoma on Highway at speed between 65-85 the truck vibrates pretty strongly. The passenger seat with no one it, visually vibrates from he seat back and the fuel door also vibrates. I took it back to the dealer and supposedly they checked the trie rods, ball joints, and tire balance and said they couldn't duplicate it during a road test.

Wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I realize the tacoma might not have the smoothest ride around but can't imagine what I'm feeling is normal.

    Thanks in advance!

The most common reasons for shaking at a certain speed range is the tires out of balance or a bad u-joint. Did the dealer really take all 4 tires off and check balance? I’d be skeptical if they said they did, because that’s the most likely cause. Are they mud terrains?

Thanks for the suggestion. I had them do a high speed balance today. the fronts were off by a few oz's, so I thought that would fix it. After I road tested it it felt, the same. So Im assuming that variable is eliminated. The tires a pretty new (sumitomo encounter ht). I guess I can always check the u joints, can't imagine they could be compromised after 20,000 miles. Wanted to replace the tires with some BFG AT's but doubt that would solve the problem.

Still sounds like one of tires have a balance issue. I bought new tires once, had them rebalanced4 times. Then I looked at the weights and 1 wheel had 1/2 pound of weights on it! They knew that tire was bad and they were trying to pawn it off on me. They finally replaced it. Check your wheels see if they have a ton of weights on them.

If the road is vibrating, you have just experienced an earthquake sir. Please get to a safe location and follow proper earthquake safety protocalls as there will most certainly be aftershocks.

Thats a good call, I'll check to see if they put a ton of weight on one wheel. The service rep did say that because they are no OEM tires that they are not serviceable. They think that the problem is with the tires, which they have no interest even though tacoma is under full warranty for the next 6000 miles. Here is the print out they gave me, sorry its a shitty copy.C7CD8AFF-E079-4718-A385-643102661E5D.jpg

Were the tires on the vehicle when you bought it or did you replace them after you bought the truck? Has it vibrated since you bought it or is the vibration new?

Is it still under warranty and if so, make Yota fix the issue. Don't allow them to blow off your complaint. Could be tires, axle bearing, U joints, driveshaft dinged or bent slightly or not balanced. If the dealer really wants to fix the issue, they can find it.

Had a terrible experience with the dealer after I bought the vehicle. They are non OEM tires that came on the truck when I bought it 5000 miles ago. I mentioned all the components you listed above to the salesmen and it took me an hour of arguing to get them to do the balance. They told me to pound sand more then one time.

No the tires are new and in perfect shape. The shocks have a bout 20000 miles on them so I assume they are good.

I worked tires for the better part of two decades. Never laid a hand on a Sumotummy. I'd follow the tire guys recommendation and put some tires on it. (3.25oz is like strapping a small hammer to the tire lmao) Not E rated tires, but the tires that are recommended on the truck. Yeah, I'm a Debbie Downer. I'll bet there are over 2,000 threads on tires on this forum, twice a week, rubbing, vibrating, alignment. Good luck Sir.

Frankly, I'd speak with the manager of the dealership, give them a chance to make it right and if he/she gives you flak, immediately escalate past the dealership and you to Toyota USA and lodge a complaint that they [toyota and the dealer] are not honoring the warranty that came with the vehicle. Rate the dealer as poor, give your reasons calmly and name names to include the service employees that are trying to blow you off.

If there is one thing I have learned, it's using employee names who you have dealt with [and be honest] when you move up the ladder with complaints. A ''random I don't know for sure'' employee gets you nowhere, a named employee tends to get far better results. If you get one that is good, don't forget to give them kudo's too.

It's very possible it is the tires but a quick swap with OEM at the dealer and a road test would verify that. When you have air tools and a lift, you can swap rims and tires out very quickly so it's not like it's a big time killer.

Warranty for a item, that no longer exist, cannot be warrantied. How can a dealership warranty a item bought at Walmart, by another person? Warranties are normally not transferable. If you don't believe this, take the toaster Aunt Betty got you when you got married back to BBAB and get your money back. Not being a ass. Just stating facts.

You are completely wrong. Manufacturer warranties on vehicle are transferable and it happens hundreds of times a day. Most extended factory warranties [including Toyota] are transferable also. OP bought it from a dealer and that pretty much make it 100% absolute fact. I am assuming of course that he bought it from a Toyota dealer but even if he didn't, it still has the factory warranty up to the mileage and year cut off. Many dealers and manufacturers will even extend the factory warranty if you buy certified used from them.

Now the tires..........yeah, those fall under the tire manufacturer when it comes to the warranty on them even when the vehicle is new but the dealer should still verify that the issue is with or not with the tires as they sold the vehicle with them.

I don't give a shit about the truck. You can't warranty a part, that is gone. The tires are gone. The tires were part of the truck at one time and could be warrantied "before they appeared in the trash can at Walmart" and before Brother Jerry purchased new tires.
It's not that hard. If he took the tires back to Walmart, or Sumotomo, they would ask him "where you buy the tires sir" and he would say, ah......I did not buy the tires! and they would say, "go phuck yourself sir"
The OP has already said, The service rep did say that because they are no OEM tires that they are not serviceable.

I'm curious was tire make/model these are? My winter tires would vibrate at 55-60 mph like that but the summer tires didn't. I had them balanced multiple times, by different service centers, but no changes. I'm convinced some tires just vibrate more than others.

This might be a dumb question but since you only mentioned the passenger seat and fuel door... do you actually feel a vibration? Like in the steering wheel? Or from a rear tire? Or are you just seeing the seat vibrate? Because the passenger seat is normal. Mine vibrates when empty, but the truck rides smooth. Can’t say I’ve ever bothered to watch my fuel door when I’m driving.

Boonedoggle, They are practically new sumitomo HT tires. They are a highway truck tire. Ive had them balanced 3 times they all zero out after each balance. Truck is a year old with 20,000 miles on it. They were on the vehicle when I bought it last month.
